opening day at the track
so i went down to my local dragstrip last night, and boy was it crowded!!! after 7, they stopped letting people in it was so packed! i was there for 4 hours and only got 3 runs in. i brought down both the Vette and the Z.. i drove the vette, and my brother drove the camaro (it was his first time drag racing). he actually did pretty good overall. the Z is a completely stock LG4 with auto trans, and still has the original plugs and wires. however, i removed the A/C belt and air filter for his runs. 1ST RUN : 17.5 at 81mph with 2.5 60ft (he was a little nervous).... 2ND RUN : wow!!! 16.6 at 84mph with a 2.4 60ft! (incredible!!! he shaved almost a full second with just improved driving!!!).... 3RD RUN : 16.8 at 83mph with 2.4 60ft. (not bad for a 16 year old kid considering this was his first time. with a better launch he could have seen low 16s). Now for the Vette. i was a little dissapointed because i had done alot since the track closed last year, and didnt do any better. 1ST RUN : 14.3 at 101mph with 2.4 60ft (i have a throttle enhancer and realized i couldnt do my usual "just floor it" launch).... 2ND RUN : 13.6 at 102 mph wth 2.0 60ft (getting better, but i have to do a very conservative launch or itll break loose).... 3RD RUN : 13.7 at 102mph with a 2.1 60ft (got some more wheelspin). my mph went up by 1, but my ET stayed the same. what do you guys think im doing wrong? since my last time at the track ive added : airfoil, MAT relocated to inlet tube, ported plenum, 160 degree stat, timing bumped to 10 degrees, screens removed from my MAF, and a throttle enhancer. this i believe should have provided more than 1 mph, and no time gains. true, i cant launch to my full abilities because of the stock tires, but i thought id be at least in the 13.4-13.3 range. i pulled my plugs when i got home, and found they were colored off-white, instead of the usual tan, indicatating im running a little on the lean side. im currently running 48psi of fuel pressure, do you think i should bump it up to 50? any suggestions would help.

I would say bumping the fuel pressure up would be a good idea, your mods allowed better breathing and you didnt add any extra fuel so you have to expect those sort of things
. Maybe you should invest in a set of drag radials or some tires that will stick a little better. If you have the dough I would buy a set of wheels/tires just for drag racing, but otherwise a good set of drag radials will do a better job than stock street rubber. I wish I could go to the strip....damn ****ty midwest

The mods you did will help the car breath a little better, but probably will not add a lot of power. They fall under the every little bit helps section. Your MPH does suggest that you should be able to run a low 13 with hook. What was you short time last year?
I like to run about 12-13 deg of timing in my car, if you could go to the track on a day with less people. You could experiment with different FP and timing, and then know for sure what helps and what does not.
