Patience, patience, patience. We have been waiting forever, but soon the wait will be over. I just won a gauge cluster from an 84 TA (so I wouldn't have to take my dash apart while I work on this) AND I work for a very large advertising agency with state of the art scanning and graphics technologies. So you can be sure, I will post the scans here, first. 2 Weeks at the most. We will have them, oh yes, we will have them.

Don't forget us birds with just the two guages....I know its lame but I only have an 85 mph speedo and a fuel guage.....
I have full guages for my S/E though.
What do you print the guages on...a plastic or just plain paper?
I have really slick printers where I work.

Okay so here is the update. Since I am new to the advertising industry and this particular job, I had my co-worker at work call in a favor to the creative guy and we scanned the 1984 TA gauges on some high tech scanning equipment. They saved it to a zip drive. Of course I do not have a zip drive, so I bought some cheepo CD-R's and asked for another favor to burn the zip drive files onto the CD-R. Turns out the CD-R was defective and now I feel uncomfortable asking for ANOTHER favor to reburn them since this is all on company time and I'm new.
So, I bought an external zip drive off of Ebay and of course it is an SCSI drive (what the hell do I know) and I don't have an SCSI card. So, determined to make this project a reality, I bought an internal IDE zip drive which I KNOW will work and it should be here in 2-5 days.
I have the original zip drive disk with the original gauge files and I also have photoshop so I will be posting several versions of the gauges. Just give me another week.
Just FYI, I checked the 84 gauges against my 83 and they are identical as far as rpm redline/postioning and orientation of the oil pressure, fuel, batt, and water temp. So, I assume they will fit 82 as well.
Sorry, I don't know the layout of the 2 gauge style, but if you post a close up pic, I can determine if they are oriented the same way (at least the speedo)
Like I said, a little patience, we have been waiting for years anyway. And for those of you who are going to say, "you should have just paid the $70 for the McEwan". My spare gauges cost $20 with shipping and each drive was only $10 each. So I have still spent a drop more than half of what the McEwan's would have cost AND I have a zip drive for future projects. Of course I'll be selling the scsi drive so I'll actually end up paying less than half and I can customize the gauge faces anyway I want.
Sammy don't worry, you'll be the first to know. I promise.

Yeeeee Haaaaawwwwww!!!!
I have my guages out of my Firebird right now. I may be able to take a few pictures.
The speedo I think is identical....the 85 mph one.... the fuel guage is as big as the speedo and just houses the big fuel needle.

I am very interested in a scan of those guages as well. I have the 85 mph speedo with the tach and like 3 other gauges. Are those the right ones that your are getting?

THats got to be the biggest BS story i ever heard, if you know what SCSI and IDE is, you wouldn't have bought either one, you would have bought an cheap USB external zip drive for 50 bucks from best buy.
Check my sig, can't promise that I have the right gauges, but I do have alot of templates. Dont' ask me to make them cuase I only own Camaros.

83TransAm - yes I believe those are the same ones. Should be (in no particular order) speedo, tach, oil pressure, fuel, batt, water temp.
82RecaroTA - Interesting, I'll see waht I can do.
pennylessZ28 - What can I say say? You have a camaro, are not willing to help us 82-84 'bird owners, and I guess you don't get out much to hear other people's stories. Of course I have my degree in accounting, not computer engineering as I assume you do, so I made a few mistakes. But since you KNOW what you are talking about, tell me which of these mysterious drives at Best Buy is $50. I have even included the link for everyone to help you in your search http://www.bestbuy.com/search/sr02.a...8&SV=zip+drive . Remember I paid only $10 for my used internal IDE drive, so who is telling the bigger BS story now?
As for everyone else, I am working on the project. They WILL get done and for those who recognize my contributions to the website via the threads (fiberglass/gfx list, taillight/hood/nose comparisons of firebird and camaro models) know that I do complete and post my projects, and I apologize for the weekly delays.
Hey, no one wants WFG more than I do, that IS the reason I undertook this project to begin with.

Okay, I'm pretty much done. The only problem is my sizing for the gauges is perfect in Photoshop, but I seem to have problems after I post to the web, try to download them and print. The sizes do not end up correctly. So I am just kind of testing here with the pics. You can see what they look like. I'll let everyone know when I figure it out.

This 160mph one can actually be acurate. Herb Adams in the early 80's, on his Pro-Ams, did this very overlay. You need to purchase a 50% speedo gear ruducer(?) for GM f-bodies. I contacted a speedo shop and they said the reducer would cost about $60. WOW, Instant functional 160mph speedo for us cable driven guys.

For you 82-84 TA owners who also have Photoshop, I can email you the proper files. Yahoo no longer allows public viewing of high res files (those bastards). The proper print size in Photoshop is apparently 24% of the actual size. The photos above are displaying the proper size, but WON'T print correctly in Photoshop, Paint, or Picture Viewer. Like I said I WILL eventually figure this out so anyone can use the files.
I believe in "plug & play" simplicity, so my goal is for the user to just have to hit print.
Send me an email request or private message, so we don't clutter this thread with simple requests for the Photoshop (only)files.
Any suggestions? I'll try to see what I can do. Feel free to modify them yourself and post here so we all can see them
Good luck

OK, got 'em - THANKS! I'll try printing them out tomorrow. Not sure what program I'll use (no photoshop...) but I have several to try. I'll post later how everything goes...

I can print them out using some graphics program that came on the computer... I'll need to play around with sizing though.

The actual printed size should be about 4 1/8 inches in diameter. If you have photoshop and get the .jpeg files from Nightcruzer, they are perfect, just open and go. If not, just try opening the .jpeg files through some viewing program and they might print ok, but i'm not sure.

Those heater overlays are completely retarded. First of all, he's not going to print them at 1200 dpi. You'd have to have the best printer in the world to print 1200 dpi. Sure, the file/screen resolution may be 1200 dpi, but real world printers usually have a maximum of 300 dpi. Secondly, he's charging $15.50 plus $2 shipping for something that you could make yourself for MUCH less. I dunno, that's just my 2 cents.
Steve
Steve
Yeah the resolution is going to be really sh!tty because he used only 72 dpi (smallest screen resolution) and reduced the image size a bit to make it even harder. I would just suggest going to a junk yard and yanking out a heater thing, scan it, and make it yourself. Or you could pay the ridiculous amount of money and get the actual one from him and mass produce them and try to sell them.

Great job guys, keep 'em coming. I haven't had time to further work on the project, but it sure is great to see so many people taking an active interest in this.

Would these work on my 88 Firebird? How accurate would the speedo be? I will have to learn how to use photoshop so I can take out the khm, and add to some color to the birds on the tach and the sppedo. They look great.
