superram cam choice

ok i'm considering different cams and i'm wondering if anyone has any experience with trying different cams with the superram. i have lingenfelter cnc'd L98 heads, 2400 stall converter, slp headers and a superram. i know the intake has the recommended LPE 219 cam but what about the ZZ-409? it has 226/226@.050 instead of the LPE 219/219 and both have .560 lift w/ 1.6 rockers. which would make for a quicker car while maintaining good streetabilty?

No experience with the ZZ-409, but times w/ the LPE 219 in my sig below. It's a VERY tame and streetable cam. Is this going in a 350, 383, or what cid?

Good things have been accomplished w/ the LPE cam. Its just a good match w/ the SR. I personally would be tempted to try the zz409. That is just me though. I have always been of the thought go bigger than you think. The 409 will still idle pretty good IMO.

How about the SLP 51004: 218*/224*@.050, .495/.502 114*/114* centerline/separation. I have the SuperRam and I'm not sure yet if I want the SLP or the LPE 219/219 . SLP used this cam with the 91-92 Firehawk that used the T-Ram intake which is similar to the SuperRam but Lingenfelter matches his to the SuperRam. I'm using stock iron heads so maybe the dual pattern cam works better. Anyone please?

I've had two cams in my 400 with the SuperRam. One being a 224/228 and 510 510 w/ 112. The second being the LPE 219. I also used Iron heads (Dart Iron Eagles). With the LPE 219 I dropped a bit on the rear wheel numbers. TO ME I think both cams in the motor made the car very tame and I was laying down 339 and 422 at the rear wheels with the first cam mentioned. Needless to say I am very siked with my next choice in cam and new heads that are the way.

Get rid of the stock iron heads!

The exhaust flow on those heads is really poor. I would not run a single pattern cam with those heads.

Actually I think either of those cams is to much for stock heads.

The biggest cam I would even think about using on stock heads is the Comp Cams XR264HR-12

Even with that cam, you still need valve springs upgraded.

i run the zz-409 cam and i can tell you that its way too much for the stock heads but very streetable with a noticeable lope to it. even though i have the stock heads and stock tpi, it still pulls hard as hell till the tpi falls on its face. ive made a few ls1 cars look stupid up till about 80mph where, of course, they catch up and fly by. i heard that the superram works best with a cam up to about 230 degrees of intake duration at .050". i would do a lot of research on a cam for that intake. it was designed to be a torque monster and give you a little more topend than tpi. too much intake duration will stop the runners from utilizing the resonant pulses and making the big torque that they are designed for. if that intake likes a single pattern cam, i would definitely use the zz-409 and upgrade to some afr heads later.

i had the LPE 219/219 and it worked great with the super ram made lots of torque but i found a cam by comp cams that makes more and is the cam im running now 224/236 and is way more torquey and has a nice chopy idel and has great vacume to work with the computor.

Please do. Do you have stock heads? I'm going crazy with the SuperRam installation right now . Those damn runner' s lower bolts . I'm also having problem with the valve covers. They won't fit into place with the runners on. :werd:

im using alum.pro topline heads. i thought the superam installation was pretty easy. i have no clearance problems with the valve covers and im using the tall style(perimeterbolt)! i can take em off in ten minutes. ill let you know how it runs as soon as i get it started, im having problems with the valve train (pushrods and rocker studs) but im almost done. just take off the rockers and get in there with an extension to get the lower bolts. i did the superam in about 3-4hours and this is my first motor. have fun.

Let me run this by you. I am thinking about "re-camming" my superram. The current cam was just something I picked up cheap. It is a 412 with 9.9:1 compression and 200cc pro-topline aluminum heads. If you have any other suggestions please remember this is a hydraulic roller but NOT in a factory roller block.
