front license plate for firebird

hey,
it was mentioned before that somenoe bought off ebay or something that there is a front license plate bracket that allows you to not drill holes in your front bumper. instead it bolts to some behind the bumper and shows in front of the bumper as if it were bolted into the bumper itself. does anyone know where i can buy one? or does anyone have one?

hmm, i didn't know someone already made and sold this. I thought about making this for my own use, but if it's out there at a reasonable price and is designed well i'd be interested. I'll do a little searching and see if i can find any info on it

i have one, i decided to get it incase i ever have to run a plate, but im not gonna, i bought it off ebay . they are , well the one i bought was meant to go on a tta, but if you drill some holes on the underside of the car u can mount it, and then no one will see the holes since they would have to get down and look at it , so it would be fine.

so what does it do, screw into the bottom of the ground effects instead? I'd rather have one that screws in right under the radiator where the air dam is. How much did that one cost you?

PS- what happened to your username? couldn't stand the probation any more?

yeah it screws onto the gfx . I dont think anything else is made. I think it was liek 30 bucks. I think if you wanted to you could put it on the front air dam, but them it would be really low and illegal . I see lots of 4th gens with those.

What I meant by the air dam is having a bracket extend from the top of the air dam and hold the plate in front of the bumper. I have seen a 4th gen with the plate mounted there though. I can't imagine that complies with the law here in NY, but I should look up the wording and see if there's a potential loophole

I found the bracket online and emailed the guy and he quoted me $21.95 for the bracket.

I'm considering it...

thats pretty interesting. Sounds like good alternative to bumper direct front bumper mount. Mine is going back on the airdam now thats its 1.5" shorter. The police can kiss my A$$ if they have a problem. I mean if they are siting in their squad car they can see the plate.

Well I just placed my order, I should have the bracket by Wed or Thursday. I'll let you know how it goes...

It's practice for the personal plate coming in 8-12 weeks...

Why does the above link say for 89+ firebirds and Trans Ams? Will it not work on my 87?

you will have to drill holes in the underside of your bumper . The newer cars allready have the holes there.

So Ty has changed the prices on his brackets since I bought mine, but its definitely worth it. It looks like such a clean install on my car, and all I had to do was drill a couple holes in the bracket itself. The last post about the 89+ is right, in our 85 there aren't any holes/screws in the bumper, gotta drill them yourself.
Here's a shot of the bracket on my car.

that looks so much better than having the plate screwed to the nose and wrecking the nose. Why didnt gm make a bracket like that , sometimes they are so dumb.
