I didn't know that Trans Am's had the push button controls (never seen one here on TGO), but I know Fieros came with them. You might want to try searching using that route.

One like this?

how hard is it to swap from one type to another? I have the pushbutton style too but I need a new head, AC always runs because there is always power on that circuit.

That is actually what i am trying to do. my 89 has the slider type and i just bought a push button style thinking that it would be an easy swap of the control heads, but its not going to be that easy. I was expecting to see the vacuum hose hook ups on the back of the push button one but it was all electric connections. From what i have been able to find in searches on here, the push botton style is part of the digital dash and it wont work with any other.
Have you ever had your kick panels off and seen what is in place of the vacuum servos? Im thinking that maybe it uses electric actuators in place of the vacuum servos.

for you to swap out the controls i think you are going to need to get a vacuum servo setup out of a parts car and I will need to get the electic system to make the push button controls work in my Firebird.

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe the wires come out the push button panel and go to a "vacuum swich assembly" that then controls vacuum servos like any normal system.
Do you think you could pull your heater controls out and see if you can see where the wires out of the back go?

Maybe we can answer each others questions.

Thanks for you help.

Holy geez, I know that's a radio with graphic equalizer, I think, but man... It looks like with a push of a few buttons, you could engage the shields, set a course for Antares at warp 8, fire the main phasers and open communications with starbase 700r4. I REALLY need to keep my eye out for that setup when I hit the junkyards from now on.

Exactly what kind of overlay are you talking about? These heater controls only came in cars with the digital dash, which don't really lend themselves well to any sort of overlay in the first place.

If you're planning to swap one of these into a different car, have fun. The whole heater box is different.

Here is the scan of the face plate:

http://us.share.geocities.com/birdof...nfaceplate.JPG

I scanned it at 600 dpi resolution so you could get a sharp image if you wanted to change color in photoshop.

it should print at the correct size.

Let me know if it works

are you sure the heater box is different? the hot/cold slider should control the opening of the heater box via cable, and they both have this slider. i know the berlinetta heater box is different... electric controlled. but the control for that was way over high up near the steering wheel. is the slider on the push button TA a/c electric on the back or cable driven? can anyone confirm..

Like i said above there is only electric connections on the back of the push button unit. there is no cables or vacuum hose connections its all electronic.

One thing i was thinking about is the possibility of useing electric vacuum shut off valves. that way all vacuum servos would be left in place, the wires out of the back of the push button unit would power the valves to open or close depending,
The only thing is where to get valves and the cost of such a thing. Plus I would need like 6 of them, i think.
any body have any thoughts?

I found out that there is a Electric Vacuum switch that would change the on/off button of the push button control to a vacuum on/off to operate the vacuum servos.
does any one have a picture of this thing?
or does any one know if there is a exploded view of it on the FBodyCD disc? or at least a part number so i have SOMETHING to go off.

I appreciate the help...

meridius, we can help each other.
I found out what you want to do is a lot easer then what i want to do.
I think that all you have to do is get a manual head then get some vacuum hose and extend the existing vacuum line to the manual head and you would be good to go.

I have a proposition for you meridius,
I have a Manual head and you have the Electric Vacuum Switch, obviously your item is worth more then the manual control so I would be willing to compensate you the difference, what do you think?

you can send me a PM if you wish.

of course I want to be sure it would work before we did any thing. If you could get a pict of the elec. vac switch that would help. Its under your dash somewhere, does any one know the exact location?
