:( Hey guys, I got a story for ya...

.. I crashed my car.

I am alright, not a scratch on me. However I wish I could say the same for my car.

I'll tell ya how it happened... I was off drivin today, it was a rather good day, and my friend needed a spot of 20 dollars, and he didn't have his car, so I decided to go for a ride and drop it off at his house. On the way home is when it happened though. I was in the middle lane, trying to get into the right lane. But there was this truck parallel to me, so stupid me instead of slowing down, I sped up to try to pass.

I got into the right lane, I was going at a too fast rate of speed to slow down in time for the exit. So I nailed the curb on the exit. The thing about the exit though, its practicly a U turn, not a straight exit. Even sometimes when you think you're going slow enough, its still too fast, and I was going fast for that exit. I put on the brakes, tried to steer it, but... BOOM! I nailed the curb. Luckily cars were passin by, and one let me use his cell phone. Because mine was over my minutes. My whole left side of the car was on the curb. The car looks almost like nothing hit it however. The front face looks fine. The only problem is the steering. My left front rim, is really messed up. Anyone have an 89 Gold IROC rim around?

My rims/tires are pushed back towards the door. The driver door can't open, the passenger door can. The hood is a little misaligned. And the left wheel is pointing straight, but the right wheel is pointing to the right. You can't really notice anything wrong with it, except that the wheels are pushed back, and that of course you can't drive it. Also the wheels are pushed in on an angle, the left front rim, is pushed in at the bottom, but popped out at the top.

I have faith, I can feel she can be fixed. But I feel worried, I'm trying not to think of it too much. This is my baby, I've waited too long for her, just to let her go. I am not letting her go. It was just a stupid mistake, next time I'll either take the next exit, or use the brake and let the car pass me, instead of racing in front of it.

What do you guys think of the situation? Ever happen to you? Think she can be fixed? I'm so worried, I need some support that it will be OK. I was so mad when it happened, right now I'm scared, I know she'll be alright, but will she? I gotta keep the faith. Pray for me, and my car everybody, thanks.

Glad you are okay!
Seriously look at the front end components. You probably killed tie rods and ball joints. Also be aware of the rear axle. If the rear tire smacked the curb hard, you may have have bent an axle. I did that once hanging a U-turn too aggressively!
Nice driving a car low to the ground, uh? An SUV would been on it's roof from the way you described it.

That sucks, I remember you saying it was your dream car.

I totaled my 1st car (Stang) in a parking lot showing off, can't get much worse than that.

Hope things work out for ya.

Oh yeah, 6k posts.

Hmmm, good point, I'll look into that. My driver side rear tire did have a gash in the tire, not enough to blow it out, but enough to see the strings, its like a flap. I honestly hope my rear is alright, 9 bolt are tough right, hope so. However the tow truck guy said "are you sure you put it in neutral?", when he was backin it up to park it in my drive way. I checked it was, but think that might have to do with it?? It was kinda makin noise through the turns, couldn't tell if that was the truck or my car.

True... don't even wanna think about it.

If your front wheels are shifted back, you prolly bent some frame. Therefore it's totalled and not worth fixing.

Sorry for the hard news, but I already told 2 of my friends the same deal and they couldn't accept it. The one still trying to get his aligned, and the other can't reason over theframe shops $3,500 charge.

I can tell you that I USED to do that all the time. In fact the last time I did the pass to get over for a turn, the guy next to me thought he whould also accelerate to try to block me. Needless to say my LT1 eat him up, and spat him out, but guess who was wainting just down the road with his new toy? Thats right, johnny law with a laser gun. 73 in a 40 - 6 point violation & a 330 dollar fine.

No bro! Dont say that, I got enough stress on me already. The car looks just fine, theres no way it can be totalled and look like nothing happened. My left front wheel is shifted further back more than the right front wheel. So I believe the left side got the most beating. I honestly don't think it looks that bad. Cmon guys/girls pray for me and my car.

Ouch! Im sorry to hear this.

I took a corner quick, broke traction, and nailed the right side of my car up against a curb.

broke and bent up the front right rim a bit. The tire was pushed back against the wheelwell. Figured it would be suspention.

Nope! Bent frame. Spent about 2K getting it pulled, and it still pulls oddly.

Besides being pulled, i needed a new 'steering knuckle' for that front wheel.

Hopefully your frame isn't hurt!!

Dude that sounds just like my car. Nailed my left front rim, damaged the rim, not cracked, but scarred and ripped. The tire is pushed against the fender.

My bro said if the strut tower is messed up, then can't really be fixed. But I looked underneath the car, felt the strut, its all intact. My dad said I have to check the tower from inside the engine bay. But I don't want to attempt to open the hood. I noticed that the white plastic brace thing in front of the strut is broken/bent. Whatchas think?
Vader whatcha think?

Pray that my frame is alright, please.

ChevyLuva3, You can get free estimates at frame shops.

I took my car to a suspention place (well, wheels actually...) and they checked it out, and said, "Frame is bent, we can't do anything.

I took my car to get an estimate, and it was like over 5K. I was actually calling junkyards, to sell my car for a few hundred or whatever, when i found a camaro junkyard.

I told the guy my situation, and how my car rocked, and i hate to do this, and he said, "Just fix it, i can sell you a new subframe for like 50 bucks, if you sell it to me, ill just do that".

So i got excited, and asked him who did his bodywork, and he gave me their number.... saved 3K on getting my car fixed. Totally worth it to me. I don't know how all of you are about your cars, but my iroc is my baby! Not any iroc, just mine.... Wouldn't give it up for anything if i can help it. : )

(Now you can read my post on how the engine was run without oil, and cry with me)

Good luck!

'S.S.eater' if you lived here in Colorado, I would say lets get the posse together !!!
Sneak up in the middle of the night, and turn both those POS Accords upside down. literally.
Oh yea...can't forget to leave a beer can pyramid on top of each Accord

That is what I was thinking. Why can't he just get a new front subframe? It seems like he could buy another camaro.(like mine)For say 500 bucks. And use that subframe and what other parts he needed. That would be the the best solution.I think.

Sorry to hear the bad news.I know what U mean about dream cars. And if mine was done and I wrecked it I would.Well I don't know what I would do.

Hope U get her fixed!

Maybe its wise to stay 5mph below your skill limit, because the first time you try the 5mph over, you get a bent front left wheel

I've never been in a wreck, I've never had a ticket, I've never so much as backed into a phone poll at 2 mph, I attribute it all to having fun in the RIGHT places, which isn't traffic. If im going to risk a wreck, I risk it where It wont effect anybody but me. And I prepair myself for the consequences.

I learned my lesson after totalling my first car. I was flying in my 94 hyundai excel GL (badass). I was going about 100mph on the interstate when I was cutoff by a truck for no reason. Not a car in front of him or me for miles. He cuts me off, not knowing what to do (been driving 2 months) I locked them up tried to change lanes and BAM head on onto a guard rail. That car handled so horibbly it wasn't even funny. Still a stupid thing for me to have done. Now i try to only be a badass when I know im the only one out and Im not going to kill anybody or risk something like that happening again. I crushed that poor little korean car into a pop can and walked away. Took me about 8 months to talk my parents into letting me get a camaro. I still cant believe i did.

Its better to learn from others mistakes than your own.

There have been so many millions of wrecks, I think i'll just take all those as lessons and keep myself safe

Don't put yourself on such a high pedistal. I never got a ticket either. You think I was having fun in traffic?! I was trying to pass some truck so I could get into the right lane, oh boy so much fun. I wasn't even speeding, except of course when I was trying to pass. It was a stupid mistake, next time I'll slow down and let the truck pass.

Well guys, just wanted to give ya a week update. I'll give yas updates on how its going in the following weeks.

So far my car has been sitting face out in the driveway, still sitting pretty. Its exactly the same as it was on that dreaded Friday. Its been sitting there cuz my brother has been on vacation for a week. Remember he's the one who works for Chevy. He'll be coming back tomorrow (Saturday). So then he and his friend, who is also skilled on working on cars, can see whats up with it. Of course I will be helping too, I wanna be a part of fixing my baby. Learn some stuff too. They're gonna probably put it on jack stands, and see what happened.

BTW, I know I'm still scared I didn't bend my frame, I'm just curious how is it possible to bend my frame?? Our cars have control arms, which are connected to the frame, if anything is bend its probably the control arm, and all the tie rods and stuff. We'll see, I hope it turns out OK, I'm looking forward to fixin her up.

Well, i hit the curb flush on the side of my wheel. I was turning away from the skid, and the side of my front rim hit the curb dead on, and bounced up onto the curb, alond with my car, where it continued to go over a steet sign, and then bump against a lightpole, and bounce back a few feet.

Strangly, the front damage was only some chipped paint, a small crack in the nose, and my front grille and one foglight were ruined.

I guess it was the frame attachment of the lower controller arm had pushed back quite a bit. Where it attached to my frame, it pushed back so far, the bolt holding it on poked a hole in my Y-pipe.

Exhaust sure did sound cool for a while though.

Good luck on not having a bent frame! Keep us posted

Its only a day later post, but.. right now its really hurting that I don't have a car.

I'm in the mood where everything I think about makes me pissed, the only thing that would relieve me, would be a nice long ride with my IROC.. but as you know. So now even the only thing that can help me, can not. I'm having problems with work, girl, my car, and I just wanna get out of the house.. and I can't aaaahhhhh... I now know how cool it is to have a license, I can't live without it!!! Right now, I feel as bad I did when I was looking for my IROC. Because technically I don't really have one, its in the driveway, thats bout it. I hope I get happy again. I want my car fixed.

Hey guys!

I was just thinking, my bro hasn't checked out the frame yet, so I'll decide what I want to do from there. But, I was thinking, say the car's frame is just fine, and fvcked the tie rods, steering knuckle, control arm, and stuff but not the frame....

I am thinking about purchasing Energy Suspension poly bushings. And the bushings are for my control arms! What better time than to do them now, eh?! I'll get better steering and all that. So whatchas guys think?? Any advice on the polys?

Hey guys, my bro is back home. Hasn't checked a single thing. He didn't even jack it up to look at it. He said he'll come this Saturday... lets all say it together... SLACKER! WTF! I remember I waited a month for him just to change my oil, and now this? Something that can be done in a week, is certainly not gonna be some summer project HELL NO! I want my car back NOW! Sucks too this Saturday is graduation, I wanted to put all ribbons and **** on it, and rip around the streets, d@mn it!

Oh and btw, I would do it myself, but I don't know a d@mn thing of what I would be doing.

Oh one last thing, I believe he said another 89 Gold IROC (front left) rim would cost like $300. Is that true?? Theres gotta be cheaper cost for a rim like that, any of yas got a spare? Thanks!

Oh one last thing, I believe he said another 89 Gold IROC (front left) rim would cost like $300. Is that true?? Theres gotta be cheaper cost for a rim like that, any of yas got a spare? Thanks!
Youd be lucky to only spend $300 on a rim like that in mint condition. The ods of coming across a used 1 for sale are slim. But I wish you the best.

Sorry about all the wrecks and stuff, I've never wrecked my IROC, but it wasn't because "I know my limits and never push them and blah blah blah." Anyone that ever said that would be a ***** in my book (hint hint). Pushing your limits is how you raise them. What's the point of owning an IROC if you're just gonna say "No, I don't feel like gettin sideways around this corner...I might wreck."

Maybe I just like buyin tires more...heh heh heh.

CL3,

If you want it repaired, get started. Don't wait for someone to do it for you, because they aren't nearly as motivated as you are.

Not knowing what you're doing is a pretty lame excuse. At the least you could block the wheels, jack up the front and put it on stands. If you have a digicam handy, post a few photos and I'm almost certain someone here could identify at least some of the major problems, if not all of them.

If you don't know a lot about it, now is your chance to learn - unless you don't want to know anything about it...

It sucks that your car was damaged, but the only way it is going to get better is if you get busy.

Hey guys, update.

Well my bro and his friend are gonna check out my car tomorrow at like 8 in the morning, I won't be awake yet lol. I'll be up prob like 10 or so. I believe by then I'll know the verdict of the frame. Which could either make me or . We'll have to see. In a couple mins I'll be on my way to my graduation mass. Tomorrow is graduation. For some reason, I might not be able to sleep tho. My car's future awaits and my graduation awaits. Pray for me guys/girls. Pray for my car. Tomorrow I will be waking up knowing if the frame is damaged or not, hopefully not. I just hope I can sleep, pray everyone.

Same thing happened to me..do you know how fast you were going? I tried to take a corner at 45 MPH in my V6..it was night, and I hit a wetspot from a leaky fire hydrant, and went straight to the curb..

I had about 2500 damage in frame repair, along with 2 ruined rims..
Thank *** for full coverage insurance =P

Hey guys well here's the update you (and myself also) were looking for.

My brother and friend put it up on stands checked it out...

Its totalled.

I cracked the frame, bent the strut tower, etc, etc. The driver side tower is higher then the right side. I shoulda took some pictures of it, but. I was so sad, my dream, now reality, is now a memory.

Now what do you guys think I should do. How should I sell it? In parts? In a whole? My neighbor who races his Monte Carlo says he would buy the engine. The engine is perfect, with 110,000 miles. Whatcha guys think? The rear is fine: 9 bolt 2.77. The tranny is fine: 700R4. The engine is fine: 350, 5.7ltr. The rims are fine, atleast two of them: IROC 16x8 gold.

(deep breath)... this is terrible, next time I'm using the brake when I need to pass over to next lane. What a hard way to learn it. Now I have to look for another car. My options are once again: Thirdgen (of course) Camaro, or Firebird, or possibly a Cavalier Z24...

TTYL... Peace
BTW thanks for all your prayers. Pray for me that I find a good used car in the near future.

Sorry to hear about your encounter, hindsight is 40/40 is what I say. Sometimes we all need to think about the consequences before we act, especially on the street.

good luck, part(y) it out....and lesson learned.

Hey guys, I'm deciding to sell my car as a WHOLE.

I've got a price in mind, but I wanna hear what you guys would a) buy it for, or b) sell it for. Just as a perspective to see what I can get.

My Car: 1989 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z
Black
Gold Package
K&N Filters
Flowmaster Catback
Custom Ram Air
350, 5.7ltr engine (110,000 miles)
700R4 Automatic Transmission
9 Bolt Rearend 2.77 Ratio
TTops
Tan Interior

Problems: Frame cracked
Strut Tower broken
Steering Box Frame cracked
Suspension/Steering problems

(I cannot remember specifically what the problems were, I listed what I remember being said from my brother and his friend, who checked it out)

If it wasn't for the fact that the frame is cracked, the wheels are pushed back, etc. You almost could not notice it was damaged. The front face face of the car is still recognizable.

She is truly loved, and she will be missed...
IROC-Z

I know how you feel. I felt the same way when i bent my frame.

I called a few junkyards, and ended up calling a camaro specific junkyard.

Over the phone, after describing my car, the guy said, "Why don't you just buy a used subframe? If you sell it to me, that's what i will do, then sell your car".

So turns out he didn't do his own work, but gave me the number of his mechanic.

Cost about half of what my estimate was to get the frame fixed, new steering knuckle, etc... Came out to about 2,000.00.

Not sure how your car is, but it might be worth a check to get it towed somewhere, then ask them if you can supply some parts yourself. If you check out the ads at the top of the page, they are thirdgen's lifeline. I bought a used Y-pipe from one of them, and it came out really cheap. Some of these places which deal in used parts can really cut costs.

Up to you, im not sure of the damage done, but i know what you mean about your car being your baby...

Yeah I read your post earlier about that. I stated to someone else what you said. By just getting another subframe and have it put on. He said yeah, but that would take a lot of work. Because first you would have to strip all the stuff off the car, get the subframe welded on, but one thing, even if the front is an 1/8th of an inch off, the car won't drive. He said its a lot of work, and would cost big money like 5,000 dollars.

My brother and his friend checked out my car they said it was done. And even if I could get it fixed, the frame where the steering box is connected would eventually crack again or whatever. I'll have to hear what my brother says again.

I'm still thinking of having my car brought down to this place. Even though it would cost like 80 bucks, just to be absolutely sure my car is unfixable. Think I still should have it checked out? Just to absolutley sure? They said, that the guy would say the same thing, except I'd lose 80 bucks. But I don't know, I would hate it if my car could have been saved, and I'll never know. I think I should, whatcha think?

BTW how long did it take to get the new subframe and have it installed. Cause I don't want this to be a summer project. Thanks!
PS, how can I find out if I can use a new subframe? How can I tell theres too much damage?

EDIT: Where would I find somebody who could put the frame on? etc. Please message me back quick, private message me, I wanna know all the details! Thanks! Hows the alignment so far? Everything on par?
