WinALDL cable

Can someone guide me through building one of these cables. I am not great with electronic schematics. Thanks.

Do you have the parts yet?

Do you have all the parts yet? I think I paid 5 or 6 dollars at radio shack for my parts. I think I used a 2n2222 transistor but I don't remember for sure.

Take a look at the pictures and schematics on this site
http://w1.601.telia.com/~u60113744/s...dl/winaldl.htm

If you have any specific questions please ask and I'll answer them.

I appreciate the reply Bill. No I do not have the parts cause what are the parts that I need. Is there a list or something.

Parts you need.

You need the following parts:

Serial connector
2 10 K resistor
1 NPN transistor. Look at radio shack. I think I used either a 2n2222 or a 2N3904.

After you get the parts let me know if you have any specific questions about making the cable and I'll do my best to walk you through it.

BTW: ever use a soldering gun?

Thanks again Bill and yes I have used a soldering gun ONCE. I have a 30 watt one. If you could please tell me step by step how to do this cable cause I do not get what I am supposed to do from the pic and schematic. I do thank you for your help though.

Ok here goes.

first print out the picture with the schematic so you have it for refference. The package the transistor came in will tell what is the base, collector, and emitter.

read throught this after you have all the parts and try to visualize where they are going to go before you solder anything. I was able to make the whole thing fit inside to housing for the serial cable.

Find pin one on the serail connecter (should be labeled if you look close)

Solder the collector to pin 2 of the serial connector.

Solder a 10 K resistor to pin 4 of the serial cable. Solder the other end of the resistor to the collector coming out of pin 2.

Solder the Emitter to pin five of the serial connector

Solder a wire (this will be the ground connection so make it as long as you want the cable to be) to the emitter comming out of pin 5

Solder a 10K resistor to the base of the transistor.

Solder the data wire to the other end of the resistor that is connected to the base of the transistor.

All that is left is putting the housing around the serial connector and plugging it in to the ALDL. I didn't need the the resistor connected to the aldl to make the cable work in my 91 RS.

Good Luck and let me know if you need more assistance.

Thank you soooooo much!! I tried to build one of these yesterday, but it didn't work. So then I took it back apart and used your instuctions and it worked!

Re: WinALDL cable

I just ran across your step by step for the cable. Congratulations on the simplest write up. Old post too. Thanks. Maybe This will work right.
