Welp folks, I am finally getting around to tossing up some pictures of my body and paint project. My car was getting pretty rough looking, and I had been planning on rebuilding the exterior for about a year. It took about that long to get all the parts and supplies together, and to learn what I needed to know. Anyways, it is an 87' IROC, I did the following body mods:

Shaved antenna hole
shave body mouldings
complete 91/92 gfx setup
replaced driver fender (GM)
replaced passenger fender (GM)
replaced hood with a cervini's 2.5" cowl induction
new grille, park lights, etc.
GTA hatch (shaved 3rd light holes)
85/86 style aerowing (no center light)
4th gen nose emblem
new decals
new emblems


Stripped and prepped whole reassembled car, (more wetsanding than you can shake a stick at!) then 4 coats of viper GTS blue pearlescent, then 4 coats of clear.

The car was originally a 305tpi/automatic/g92 car, and now is a 355/T5 car. I will grab some pictures of the interior/ underhood tomorrow, the inside is mostly new with 4th gen T/A leather lumbar seats, 4th gen console, etc..

fukin sweet.. try taking some pics where you dont have the shadow effect of the trees though. when I first saw it, it looked like the hood and nose were warped.. sweet *** ride kid..

Is that one of the fiberglass spoilers from gtauto or is it an orginal rubber one?

Did you paint the car and gfx and then assemble them, where you have good paint under the gfxs.

Either way that is one sweeeeet car.

Yeppirs, I painted the GFX off the car, as they have to be in order to get the areas painted where they mount, as well as underneath them. I also painted the hood & spoiler of the car as well, for the same reason. The spoiler is actually an original 85' Trans Am aero wing, that is in great condition with no splits. I will be replacing this probably next summer with one from GTAuto, mainly due to it's wight, and as I am sure everyone knows it's tendancy to crack paint. I originally had a 91/92 wing for the car if the aero wing did not turn out well, but I really like how it gives the car character and you do not see them on camaro's.

 

Oh yeah, as you may have noticed, the underhood is left in the flat base coat finish for ease of maintainance.

VERY VERY VERY AWSOME!!!! Love the blue color and the bird rear spoiler. My only suggestion is to lose the gray wheels and replace them with chrome ones....anything would do. The "old school" rims look out of place with your new ground fx and such.

I got the rear bumper along with the rest of the gfx from a 91' Z28 parts car...

 

91Z, I was so mad at that book, can't believe I spent $17 to find out everything I already knew. The only reason I kept it was for the good picture of the subframe connectors from below the car... they should call it "Camaro Beginners Guide".

But, ES87, looks sharp! It's cool you took pictures of the "before".. those make the finished product look so much better!

 

Wow. That is simply beautiful dude!! Awesome shade of blue too!! Looking at that just makes it much easier forget all how much it's gonna cost to restore my own ride .

Looks nice- like the color also. I'm trying to keep my '86 IROC as original as possible as I'm in the middle or restoring it...but anyhow, it looks like your hard work paid off for you.

I like it alot, but I would go get a 91-92 High Rise or a 4th gen TA spoiler. I love the color too, hey how much did you pay for it orignally and how much did you pay in mods and stuff.:hail: :hail: Also, now I would get new rims, or chrome the Stock ones, and also put some GTS front light covers.

 

If that is the car Erik was telling me about, he painted it himself! He said he had some trouble with it but it looks good from where i am sitting. It looks sweet, i should check it out in person. That maybe the reason why he did not paint the headlight pockets black. I personally like it, that's what i had done to my iroc only it is a really dark blue met. At some stances it almost looks like the headlight pockets are black! Once again, nice job Erik.

 

thats a really nice car man I like the way the hood looks on there and that rear spoiler is nice as well. have you thought about painting the headlight buckests black again I just think they look better blacked out just my opinion though. I mean no disrespect though I really like the car alot, I wish mine looked that good.

 

I like it all but the wing.... Otherwise, it looks really nice. I had a buddy paint his 72 GMC the same color. And I've loved that colro ever since!

Alot of work, alot of $, tears, etc. If you can, throw away your receipts as you go! I kept all mine in a shoe box over the past 3 years, it is one -heavy- shoebox now that is hard to keep the top on. :sillylol:

I'm thinking the headlamp pockets actually will stay the way they are, the paint is a pearlescent, if you actually look right at the car they look pretty dark purple, almost blackish. I was originally going to paint them black, but really loved the effect that they had so I left them alone.

I was originally planning on keeping the body totally stock, but somewhere along the line of restoring the car I decided to just do what I wanted with it. I wanted to try and make it unique, yet suttle.

Tks, I would not mind someone photochopping the car. While they are at it, try some different wheels and such, maybe some of the later t/a "twisty" wheels? (98-01 I think)

I originally had a factory 91/92 Z28 spoiler for the car, but really liked how the aero wing looked on the car. The 91/92 wing was just a little too much for me, and was much higher than the hood, which the aero wing is level with. I wonder how the 4th gen wing would look, but I think I will end up sticking with the aero wing, as goldy locks said it, "just right".

Thanks again bro! If I could recommend anything to anyone planning on repainting their own car, bodywork is absolutly paramount, and be sure to get way more than enough paint to do the whole car. Like I was telling you, I ended up having to repaint the gfx and some of the other stuff that I painted with the first run of paint when I got the 2nd batch so it would all match. It was definetly a learning experience!

meridius - no taken, they actually almost look black/purple at some angles. As I was saying above, I was going to paint them black but -really- liked the effect.

Who did you buy the cowl hood from?

 

How hard was it to swap over from the pre 90's GFX over to the 91/92 front end? A lot of drilling? Any hard crap necessary? I've wanted to do that before I paint mine

 

The gfx should bolt right up. It is just a front lip, not the whole front end. The rear bumper is one whole piece though! If you were to look at your car, it is the same, except for those vents.

 

Its a Cervini 's hood.It a very nice/well built piece. There were only 5 or 6 holes that needed to be either drilled or enlarged.East swap though.

Nice!! Very Nice! I actually like the wing on there, it's unigue and does blend in with the car..not quite as much as on a T/A but nice nonetheless.
