ghost flames
who's got em? pics? the seem like they'd be easy to paint, just mask everything, draw a pattern, cut the tape out and then follow the edges of the tape with a spray gun. here are a couple pics:

When I was racing Nationals down in Cordova I seen this 68-not a 3rd gen, but still bad-*** none the less. During the day it had flame over flame over flame overlay, but the true beaty did'nt come out till night time and the lights would hit the car a certain way, they had even put pearl ghost flames on top of what they had, my jaw just dropped the first time I caught glimpse of the pearl ones.

Those cars all look great, but. Not ghost flames. Ghost flame are either very dimm in colour or pearl or something that only appears when seen at the proper angle. IROCKER Has a great looking Camaro with ghost flames. I will let him post a pic of his own car though for you to see.

Now those are ghost flames. Look awesome TPI383. I love it! I do realize that a picture hides the full effect, so I can imagine what they look like in person

I saw a badass 78 Malibu with ghost flames and I about hit the bleachers (at the dragstrip
)
He pulled up to the tree, light turns green and here he comes. The car was black when he started. As he got closer, the flames started to appear.
They were painted with the same iridescent paint that "tuners"* use.
It was cool as hell.
By the time he was heading away from us, the flames were gone.

ok, my mistake, the pics i posted aren't ghost flames. but back to my initial question, how would i go about painting the flames in the pics i posted? and while we're at it how do you paint real ghost flames?
Crappy pics, but you get the idea. They ARE ghost flames. Totally invisible at certain angles. AND ITS A 3RD GEN TOO!!

non thirdgen, flames layed and painted twice with HOC flip-flop, note the plate in the pass side windshield, would you drill that bumper? this car is 9 seconds plated, insured, and driven.

changes gold-to-deep purple depending on light source, a tatoo artist was paid $100 an hour to lay the tribal flames perfectly, it took him two days.

the two mustang pics I posted can hardly be seen without just the right light then they really stand out, otherwise tey look as black as the rest of the car like a night.

Ghost flames are supposed to be barely visible, like a ghost. I like the ones where the flames are the same color as the car, but in a slightly lighter shade or on a light car, slightly darker, like the white Camaro.
TPI 383, has the perfect picture of a ghost flame paint job. sometimes you see it and sometimes you don't. It is the perfect effect. I have taken a few custom paint classes and know a bit about ghost flames. The less you see it the better it is. The most basic ghost flame is made by spraying one or two coats of the cars color over the flame area. When tape is removed the flame will be the same color as the car but with a slight darker tint from the extra paint. In some light it will show and some it will fade away. You can then dress it up with some pearl around the edges to bring the line out a bit and change the apperance in different light. Some people will tape the flame and then spray the complete front of the car with pearl, same effect but not as nice in my opinion. Others will add colored pearls to the tips of the flames, so they will have a redish, purplish, ect look in the correct light. Ghost Flame-Like a ghost fades in and out of view. I am in the middle of my 87 Iroc-Z project car and will be spraying it Electron Blue with Ghost Flames like the car that TPI 383 posted. I also have a big Block K5 Blazer for winter fun and that is getting Rhino Lined Orange and then I am going to tape flames and spray one more coat of liner on the front. The thickness of the liner will give a nice edge that will show the flames in the correct light. Can you say SWEET.
