Id heads plz -- Casting number 3911032

Ok my "mechanic" said he would sell me these heads for $150, they need valve seat seals or something apparently $30

then he said he will install them for me for $300

so $480 if i dont do anything to them (ie machining)

they say made in canada on them and this is the casting number ( i think) 3911032

350 heads btw

Low-perf 68 307/327 (2-barrel).... pass on it, they aren't what you're looking for. Probably don't have accessory bolt holes.

Hmm actually, will they flow better than the GM Goodwrench LM1 heads ?

Could u maybe give me a list of head numbers that are decent, I dont need anything spectacular, im just trying to wake up my crappy LM1 a little.

I think illl go to some junkyards and try to find something cheap.

Look for TPI heads. they tend to better heads that the crappy TBI heads.

The 193 are large chamber , low perf, TBI swirl port heads.
Pass

the 920's are a fair decent heavy duty large chamber 70's era smog casting. A better head for porting then the 993's you now have but won't raise compression ratio Not worth the bother of the swap. Pass for this time.

The 291 heads are good camel back heads with smaller 64cc chambers which will raise the compression ratio and improve performance. Especially with proper porting.
But they do not have the accessory bolt holes that u need
for your alternator, etc. Unless you already own them now, pass.
If you already own a pair you can trade them off for a set of camel backs with the bolt holes.

You need to look for a head like the 291's which have accessory bolt holes. like 040, 041, 186, 492 etc Refering to the last three
numbers in the casting#. These are basicly the hiperformance heads from corvettes and camaros from 1969 to 1972.

Some of the small chamber 305 heads are good too with porting and larger valves , such as 416,450,601,081,083
Remember: *WITH PORTING*.....

The aluminum L-98 corvette TPI head is a good one too.
Of course a set of vortec heads off a 96 up chev truck L-31 350v8 with a vortec manifold is about the best factory head you can swap onto a 350.

Your mechanic has confused a low perf 307 head with
the chev Bowtie cast iron head casting #14011034
These are a real good hi performance racing head sold over the counter. from GM.
They were never installed on production motors.
These are great heads when ported.
If the heads he was offering were in fact the Bowtie heads
it would be a good deal. But they aren't.

There are many more aftermarket heads that you should be looking for to buy in good used condition.
Look for any thing with 58/64cc chambers. Like Sportsmans
Darts S/R's Pro Action or Edelbrock RPM just to list a few.

I am trying to figure out if the heads on the rebuilt 350 I bought off of craigslist (supposedly 87+ engine) will work with my TPI manifold
The only casting numbers I could find where within the rocker valley of the head (nothing on the outside) The heads are centerbolt valvecover heads.

Bank #1 (drivers side) is stamped as:

14102191

I126

Bank #2 (pass. side)

14102183
C23

Any help determining if a TPI compatable 1987+ heads

Ok with some work punching the keys and the toll tickets on the information super-highway I answered my question I think but I have another problem. Or maybe I don't; trying to make sure these heads work the 87 and later TPI manifold due to the angle difference for the bolt holes.

My one head is a 14102193 which is 305, 350, 87-up, 7 bolt ex.

My other head is a 14102191 305, 350, 87 up center bolt VC

these should work with TPI since they are 87 and up heads correct?

dont run heads unless they are of the same casting number perferably... unless it is an absolute junker ie farm truck used to drive water to the workers type deal

What I am confused about is if they are or are not compatable they are both 87 305/350 heads with the correct angle for TPI. Would I do better to take the Orginal TPI heads off and refurb. them and put them on this 350?

Ok think I finally resolved it... damn the internet is a great thing.... googled the casting numbers withOUT key words got this

If you cache the search or scroll to item 22 and 23 its says both of those casting numbers were used amongst 2 other pairs for 1987 to 1992 RWD TBI/PFI RWD Roller lifters and center bolt valve covers. Both are listed as HIGH SWIRL Intakes for 5.7/350 engines. Think Im golden

So I think that solves the

I don't believe I ever asked what the PERFORMANCE value of the heads were. Sorry if that was infered by some of the readers.

I was simply trying to see if those heads would work with the TPI intake manifold to a resasonable degree of performance. I am not building a 400HP NOS or blown engine. trying to put together a nice street rod for low buck with at least fact. spec. performance if I get more then so be it. Just found this 350 thats bored .30 over with a comp cam and rebuilt heads on the cheap that will find a nice home in replacing my blown up 305.

Okay, I answered in the other thread anyway.

For a stock TPI system, the heads aren't all that bad. But, for whatever reason, even the factory didn't use them on their RPM-limited TPI system. Keep the valve lift below 0.45", powerband under 4500 RPMs, and they will work okay and bolt up without modification (assuming the TPI base is '87-up non-Vette).

Awesome... thanks for the guidance and help... sorry I didn't pick up the answers on the search function of the forum. Still getting used to this forum's links as opposed to others I am on.

I know they aren't dump hump or aluminum hi.po. heads but just working on getting a cruiser together that doesn't knock like it was busting down a door.
