What is the farthest you have gone in miles on one tank of gas?

When I first got my car, I was filling up at every 190 miles. Now that I have been tweaking it over the 3 years I have had it, and I now can get 300 miles on one tank.

The farthest I have gone on one tank without running out of gas is 311 miles (my favorite number and band) and still going.

Is this around how far you guys can go?

I wanna say around 300-340 something like that. Was on the road and didn't want to risk it, pulled over. Only had about 2 gallons left in the tank.

Usually attempt to put gas in it after 250 or 3/4 tank is used to be safe.

I got just over 250 on 14 gallons with a carbed 2.8 in my 84. This was mostly highway mileage. It was one of these I was told I couldnt make it from Syracuse to NW CT on a tank, and I did it. Now my T/A, I give it 160, have gone to like 180 before the gauge reads way to low. Of course with cold weather and heavy foot on both, Im making like 210 on the maro and 130 with the t/a.

225 once, all highway miles. Something's probably wrong, then again, my car ran on Bosch Platinums that day. I can run 210 now with highway and city driving. Right now I have about 70 miles running on 5.5 gallons.

The biggest change I've had was changing my cat. So much freer flowing than before. Has a deeper sound too.

I usually get 150 in the city and 200 highway driving. I tend to have driving habits that don't warrant good gas mileage I suppose if I tried I could get like 250-300.

I've gone 220 before with about .3 gallons left. May be because of my cat being so dead all the honeycomb stuff has flown out. Now I assume it's just one big empty space for exhaust to slow down in.

350 miles going from Pasadena to the San Fernando Valley to Pasadena to San Diego and back to Pasadena. This was 99% freeway driving BTW. I usually drive 99% city and I'm barely squeeking out 200 miles per tank.

The farthest i've gone was 260 miles, I usually go 200 and fuel up, and that just took me down to 1/4 tank but I was afraid of burining up my fuel pump evertime I took a medium turn the all the fuel the engine was wanting wasnt getting there. I sure as heck dont want to replace it again within a year.

330 once in my '89 on a trip from upstate NY to southern NY. Worst I've ever gotten was about 130, back when I was up at college in the winter, and most trips were about 2-3 miles.

Most I ever went was 230 miles and that was really pushing it. Usually I am safe up till 220.

For the guys that are getting 300+, are they mostly highway miles? Or are their some mods you can do to get better gas mileage?

Down here in Southern Illinois, the cities are spread apart by miles of hiway so I frequently drive my car on the hiway even though it is only for like 4 miles.

If I drive 100% in the city, I often get 270 miles. I also don't have a heavy foot. Even if I drive my car hard in the city I don't get any less than 220 miles.

Also, when I drive from Carbondale to Urbana Illinois which is about 198 miles, I can get there on half a tank, but I always fill up once I get there.

The only mods I have done are

K&N Filter
Aluminum CAI
Vaccuum hose repair - via silicon hoses
180 degree thermostat
Bosch Platnum +4
Accel Igniton module
Accel Coil
Accel 300 + muliti spark box
Accel Distributor Cap
MSD 8.5mm wires (Not on car right now)
High Flow Cat
Dynomax Cat back

I kept all of my smog and emissions equipment and made sure they all worked properly, which is why I think I am getting the miles out of my engine.

Before the ignition upgrades, I could barely break 200 miles and after put in the ignition mods, I routinely get 300 miles. I think that is a dramatic improvement.

I also change the oil every 2000 miles with a blend of synthetics and conventional oils.

HurtHorseZ28,

Does that help to answer your question

For me it was about 99% at 60-75mph. Only mod I had was a K&N.

I use to get up too 165miles per half tank of sunco ultra 94. but it been a long time since that was afordable.

when its around 1.50 a gallon for 94 its worth the extra mileage.

Is that 520 kilometers? Since you most likely have that km/h guage in Canada.

could be your hi flow injectors.

I never get more than half a tank at a time. Never know when your gonna, wanna race and a full tank is like dragging a lead weight.

Thats funny, gas never hindered my performance. Maybe a little more horsepower will make up for the weight of a few gallons of gas

Whats even more astonishing is that my 5.7 V8 gets the same or better mileage than the 6ers

How many gallons of gas do you have to put in the tank when you gas up?

Today I just tanked back up with my fuel gauge on 1/4 went 202.1 miles and I put 8.01 gallons in. 25.2 mpg, I got an exrta mile per gallon fixing that horrible exhaust leak. Last week I got 24.1 mpg. How big are our fuel tanks? I have a 84 Z28 gastank in my car isn't it 14gallons or 12?

I think mine is 13.5 or so and I'm pretty sure the TA and Z28 tank is 15.1-15.5 gallons.

i have a stock 91 rs tank and it is 14 gallons, however it think the older cars may have had 12 gallon tanks for the 6-ers that may explain some of the difference in miles per tank (besides technology differences)

Thanks Andy. I thought it was about 13.5 because last time my bird cut out going around a corner and I filled her up I got in 13.35 or something. I guess I wasn't as close as I thought. Anyone show lower mileage with higher octane fuel? When I used 91 for a while it dropped to around 13 with conservative driving. Now with 87 I get about 16.5-17. This is also with a completely original ignition system.

My average mileage distance on one tank is 280 and I fill up when the needle just hits the E. According to my gas reciepts, I fill up with 12-13 gallons.

i have only run it low enough to get 13.8 gallons in it one time they can run on E for quite a while before they cut out

Hmm, if the tank i have is a 14 gallon tank and when my guage is on 1/4 tank and only needs 8 gallons to fill to full. Then that leaves me 6 more gallons to use. But the time I went 260 miles and almost ran out of gas I think I had to put 10 gallons back in the tank to get it full. Looks like a post in the history board

Yeah it is. What do you think I was going to put it in Miles, your foolish system. J/k.
I thought I had km after it, I must have back spaced it for some reason.

You guys with the low miles, did you gut any emissions or smog equipment on your car to gain more power?

I may be the only one here that has practically new emissions and smog equipment. I have replaced almost everything except the PCV valve. Even though my engine gets older every year, I seem to be able to go farther and farther on a tank of gas.

Back in WA i could get 300-310 per tank easy. I think it was about 25-6 mpg. Drove 200miles 70-90 mph avg 75 i think all freeway and the needle was between 3/4 and full marks. 30 mpg if my math was right. Probably could've got at least 400 miles or more.

Over here in Germany I first got 230-250 miles per tank and after all my mods it's about 270 a tank now. Still waiting to see if the timing chain made a difference.
In this area it's all hills, city, and autobahn driving so naturally i use alot more gas.

Ever think about this?.........If you go to the equator and weigh yourself, and then go one of the poles and weigh yourself again, you'll weigh a little more. (not because your wearing more)
Because of the earth's rotation, the centrifiqual (spelling i know) force is trying to throw you off at the equator. So when traveling south your being pulled slightly.
Henceforth, when making a 2-way trip north and south on a level road, you'll get better mileage going south.

not that you'll notice the difference anyway

Wow, I am at 324.9 miles on one tank and the gauge is still one notch before the E! And that is with 5500 rpm launches and half of the driving in the city. I don't see how my mileage can keep improving despite the increase in age an mileage.

I must have one tough 2.8 because not a single drivetrain part has broken or shown significant signs of wear.

Hmmmm, I don't feel that bad now..

My IROC 350 TPI w/ headers, no smog, 7004R ( lock up NOT working...) 3.23 gears and 1 305 PROM ( runs rich ) in this 30 degree weather I've been getting 150-160 on 10-11 gallons. Just did the DUI coil, cap, rotor and module...just got 174 miles on 10.4 gallons. This is 87 Octane, timing is advanced a bit, and my driving is 90 percent stop and go.....or should I say stop...and GOOOOOOOO...

On an all out highway trip, I recently got 220 or so miles on 11 gallons. And that was before the ignition, and I was running 75-90mph the whole way up through some mountains......

With the 350 prom I'm going to put in before my 165 ECM swap, and the flowed injectors I'm getting, I figure mileage should jump some more.

I'm just wondering how come I can't get that many gallons in mine? I fill up EVERY Time, and even topping it off, I've gotten 12 gallons in ONCE, and I was ON EMPTY, and it cut off coming around a sharp off ramp......

I went from full to a little under 1/4 tank in a little over 300 miles round trip, most of which was highway.

And hey CT...you're damn lucky to be getting those numbers with what you've got!

By the way...you know I never got the amount of gas my Camaro can supposedly hold actually in there. I believe they're like 15 or 16 gallon tanks but like you, I never pumped more than 10 or 12 gallons. But maybe if after it releases, you put it down again, and keep adding as much as possible...it might get up there.

BUT, I wouldn't trust these gas meters either! My dad's 98 Cavalier has a 15 gallon gas tank I think he said...and he had 1/4 tank of gas pulling into the station. I watched him pump, and he pumped "14.5" gallons. What's wrong with this picture?

Almost all highway miles for 301.3 miles on 12.2 gallons of gas. i was getting really crappy milage(~250) for 12 gallons of gas, but then i replaced my O2 sensor(must've been original, looked freakin' fried).

Best $22 i ever spent was on that O2 sensor...

Holy sh*t...my 5.0 with a 4.10 used to get 9.5, but after repairs it gets like 14-15.

Check your oxygen sensor first... Does your car get up to normal temp? Maybe your coolant temp sensor is bad and the car is always dumping in more fuel thinking the engine is cold. SAME thing happened to me on that 5.0. Your fuel injectors might be shorted or broken also....is the car hard to start sometimes?

starts fine, the motor always stays under 140, might gt higher n summer, on warm days we had one dayh that was 175 and it styed at 170, my fan is n a toggle switch so i keep it always on...maybe that causes it, the 85 SC i used to have got about 25 and my blazer got alot 12...all theres cars had the 2.8 except that the blazer was carbed

I'd bet money that your oxygen sensor isn't getting heated up enough to work properly, and that the engine isn't hitting that magic temperature that kicks it to emissions mode. 140 is too cold. I bet you're running in open loop all the time. Open loop is basically no emissions controls....bad gas mileage but it hauls ***...eats up spark plugs though. Buy an adjustable temp switch for the fan..hooks to the fan and a sensor sticks to the radiator. Kicks on once the little sensor gets the right temp. Had one installed in my 5.0 and it works great...

You're gonna need new spark plugs and a new O2 sensor if/when you get a fan switch...chances are running that rich has trashed your plugs and ruined your O2 sensor.

its quicker than my old camaro was...but i dont really care about the gas mileage but i mean it should get better mpg than that...i used a half a tank today and i didnt go very far... another question, my owners manual say i have a 15.5 gallon tank, the other day it was on flat E if not a little past E i filled it up to a little past F (beats me why my guage goes below E and above F??) but anyway i was 11 gallons..where am i shorting 5.5 gallons??

Camaro gauges are horrible. Ive had it half way and put in 13 galons, and on empty and put in nine. It just says what it feels like.

My manual says 15.5 gallons too but the most I've ever put in was 12.9 so I think somehow I got the 13.3 gallon tank because the car was cutting out going around corners. I just replaced the O2 sensor today and it was COMPLETELY black besides one tiny tiny metal spot. We'll see how it affects mileage in the next week or so.

89: Christ man...that gas mileage SHOULD bug you! You must have a lot of money! Gas prices are terrible man.. I've got bumped up timing on my 5.0 and had to pump a tank of 93 octane for the drag strip trip Friday...I almost cried...$1.85 per gallon.

I thought I might mention something.

The gas guage does not measure all of the avalable fuel in your tank. When you fill your tank to the max, the guage should go past the full mark, and when you are bone dry, the gas gauge should be below the lowest point on the E.

My guage is dead accurate because I filled up with 14 gallons one day and I knew I had some fuel left.
