On the right year Corvette I'd like them. On a thirdgen, it's no different than Type R badges on a Civic.

i don't like them personally...

but i don't think they'd look that bad...

i don't care about the whole corvette thing on another car... and no it's not like a type-r badge on a civic....

i understand the flags are off a corvette, but FLAGS in general have to do with sportscars... so who the **** cares if they're on a camaro.

Type R badges on a civic? OUCH!

Well, I will be putting ZR-1 wheels on the car sometime in the future and the Tuned Port motor was essentially a Corvette powerplant in 1991 (the year of my car), so, I don't agree with the whole r!cer comment. I think it would look cool!

wheels are one thing, but putting different badges on the car (like Type R on a civic) is another. But even with the identity chrisis aside, I don't think that sort of crap looks good on cars.

Yea, instead of drilling the holes and clipping them on, I'm going to shave the studs and use double-sided door molding tape, that way I can remove them if the car looks " Type-R' ish " .

Well thanks for the negative opinion, but it seems like you have a spelling "chrisis".

oh blow me. This isn't the spelling bee, it's a form where an opinion was asked for and I obliged. Some of us have a job that makes it a little tough to proof read every post.

But as long as we're being critical of one's skills, let's critique your wording. You said "What do you think of these on the front fenders?" What you should have said is, "What do you think of these on the front fenders? (Please only post positive replies, because if you don't like it, I'll get offended and start bitching about your spelling)."

Had you phrased it to properly reflect how you actually feel, the whole misunderstanding could have been avoided.

I agree with Jim.

Them emblem itself looks good, but it belongs on Corvettes.

That is the main Corvette symbol, it would be like putting a phoenix decal on a Camaro. It would be better if you had something from a Corvette in your car, like an engine or something. I have bowtie valve covers because I have a Chevy engine (and the fact that they came with it). But its your car, do whatever makes you happy.

Flags didn't only come on Corvettes guys....

They came on '67 Camaros too...(a little different then that one though)

Flags also came on:

59-67 Impalas (all full size models)
64-67 Chevelles
62-67 Novas

So no, it is not like a type-R badge......

(I think my info is correct, I'm just pulling it off the top of my head)

Damn Jim, I didn't mean to ruffle your feathers! I was just poking you back for the Type R comment and yes, I do welcome constructive and or negative criticism. That's why I asked for all of your "opinions". So relax!

I do believe that 1st gen Camaro's as well as Nova's had flag badges. It's not just a "vette thing". So I guess you could look at it like putting a older model Type R sticker on a on a newer model type R. Not r!ce, just something different. Besides, it can always be removed without damaging the paint. The car does have a vette style power plant and will eventually have vette ZR-1 wheels.

Does anyone have pics of the 1st gen Camaro flag emblems?

Mike

As long as it doesn't say Corvette on their, then it's fine.

This is NOTHING like a Type-R badge. It has nothing to do with the name of his car, putting this badge on his car doesn't change the make or model. He won't be modifying the make or model of his car in any such way by doing this.

It's like putting a window banner on his car, or racing stripes, or tinting his windows. It's their for design, doesn't conflict with what his car REALLY is or anything.

It's no big deal. That's like saying, your a *** because you have a tattoo of say, a bear on your arm, when your not a bear, your a human. It's their for design, for looks. Not to trick you into thinking their something else other than a human.

If it did have the Corvette name on it, then I would 100% agree with what's been said.

I kind of like the vette flag up top better than the 67 Camaro flag, but what do you guys think? If you had to pick one, would you pick the vette flag or the 67 Camaro flag emblem?

I dont think they'd look bad. but, they'd fit better if you had a corvette powerplant to back them up. It is kind of like putting SS tags on or aTYpeR tags or something. My camaro MAY get SS tags once I get the ZR-1 rims, SS Hood, 91-92 GFX, LS1 and 6 speed in.. but I'd also put my 'roc up against most SS's in that case.

My 1991 Z-28 still has Tuned Port Fuel Injection which IS the same powerplant as a 1991 Corvette. I even have the six speed behind the motor. See sig.

Well, here's more pics of the car:

https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/showthread.php?s=&threadid=180263

The reason why I'm thinking about the flag emblem is because, it already has Z-28 emblems in the rocker panels.

I'm not a fan of random badges on the car...

The stock emblems is about as far as i would go.....Maybe you could make a custom emblem, that could fit in the stock location.....

But i like the whole shaved, clean look, and putting badges and stickers on the car ruins it.....

Just my .02

SOm if I put a big Raging Bull (Lambourghini) Badge on my car without the actual name....would that look cool?
I jsut dont agree with it at all. I mean yes its a logo, but its a symbol of a corvette....its what it stands for. and he doesnt got a vette. Dude, im sure theres something nicer out there thats more suited to your car.

The crossed flags are symbols of chevrolet and were not only on fenders of anyting even mildly performance oriented in the sixties but were also on the air cleaners and while yes the crossed flags did start with the vette in 53 the did not stay with the vette exclusively all that time and are a symbol of chevrolet performance to this day.

My point being was, I should of been more clear...but anyways, my point was that it doesn't have a name on it, generally 90% of the people who would look at his car wouldn't recognize it as a Chevy emblem. I'm a big Corvette fan, and I didn't even realize it was the Corvette Logo just because there are so many pins that look just like that lol.

there not vette flags. All chevys had them, its more of a chevy thing then a vette thing. Just the vette is the only that caried on the flag and made it there symbol. I say dont put it on, and go with the old z28 ones, or there is a guy making Z28 badges that look like the Z06. Now that would be cool. I heard there $$$.

Go on ebay and find some of the Camaro flags. I was thinking of doing it to but decided to get a new stock one instead.

I posted a pic above of the 67 camaro flag emblems. I still think the vette flag looks better. I have a friend that works for Corvette's of Houston and I could get new vette emblems from him and I can get new 67 Camaro emblems from Classicindustries.com

If they are reasonably priced, I may buy them both and see what they look like on the car. If I do, I'll post pics with each one on the car.

I think I've seen the same (or, at least very similar) style of flags on a '71 El Camino SS and a '58 Nomad. It's just a chevy emblem. Guys have put on chevy emblem foglights - I wouldn't think this any different.

Personally, I like a car to be understated in appearance. But hey, if you like the crest, then do it up.

the only different badges i would put on my car is a set of "RS" badges on my fenders from the older camaros. if i did this, i would first shave off the old rs badges in my ground fx. i think it could look nice, but something i would probably never do. and i do agree with some of the others that you shouldnt use those badges. the first thing that came to my mind (and probably most everyone else) is corvette. sure, they may have come on other cars, but corvette is what comes to mind. since you dont have a corvette, i wouldnt recommend doing that.

In a recent issue of GM High Tech Performance, there was a feature on a teal 4th gen that had those emblems on the fenders and it looked pretty cool! (I think the article was called "America's Fastest LT-1"). It stands out and something different from the ordinary. Stuff like that is what makes our own particular car's unique from one another. I dunno, still toying with the idea. If I dont like them, I can always stick them on my tool box or something.

Did you just skip right to the bottom and make your post without reading the content of this thread?

First of all, the flag emblems were not Corvette specific, as previously mentioned in this thread.

Second of all, corvette "stuff", in general, is "GAY" on a 3rd gen? So the TPI, LT1 and LS1 engines that all debuted in 'Vettes are gay in a Camaro? ZR1 Wheels? C4 and C5 brake swaps?

FYI, the flags shown are vette specific

they used them in 77 and 79

they did not use them in 78 because 78 was the vettes 25th birthday and it got a special emblem

Look at my wing, the first thing or car you picture it on is a Honda Civic, Yet it's a universal wing, NOT Honda specific......

Look at those emblems, the FIRST thing you think about is a vette, yes they came on Chevy cars in the past, but we aren't arguing saying they are ONLY for corvettes.....

They just SYMBOLIZE Corvettes

I mean look at the corvette below, that's when you know they are symbolizing corvettes....

Ok its an old CHEVY logo that has recently been revived with the corette. My dad has that on his 60 impala vert. I think its cool, I say go for it. Ive actually been planning on getting that tattooed on the inside of my bicept!

If it makes you feel any better, I think that wing only belongs on a Civic every time I see it.

Honda didn't make that wing. Honda has never put it on it's cars from the factory. It's not the same thing.

Well, like I stated earlier, I also posted a pic of the 67 Camaro fender emblem (which is a little different than the Vette emblem in the first post), but they are very similar.

To me, that symbol represents Chevrolet performance (which is the same thing Chevy thought when they made them), hence, Chevrolet putting those Emblem's on SEVERAL vehicles that were performance oriented.

Since my Z-28 IS performance oriented and it is a Chevrolet, I still dont agree with the whole Type - R comparison. Cause believe me, I've seen MANY r!ced-out camaro's and firebird's on this board and mine is FAR from that.

Besides the wider tires in the rear, my car looks bone stock on the outside.

Cheers!

Ahh, hell... If I were you, I'd just go ahead and put them on there. It's your car, do what you like with it... it's already been established that the twin flags in general are a symbol of Chevy performance, and there are plenty of people who are going to keep saying 'don't do it'... just like there are plenty of people who are going to say 'go for it'. That's what the forum is for... but don't let the opposing opinions cripple you with indecisiveness. You do what you want to with your ride, and they'll do what they want to with theirs.. but trying to change each other's minds about it seems like an exercise in futility to me.

To all - do you guys think the gold GTA fender emblems look good or bad? I think it would be no different than that beings they would both be in the same location and they are both "GM performance" badges.

05kcilS - do you have any pics of your car?

The simple truth is, it's your car. No matter what you do, some people won't like it, but who cares. I can't tell you how many times I've heard "Lose the Grill" or "Dump the Black Outs" or anything along those lines. How many threads have turned into flames wars because of FLYNLOW92rs' wing or IROC2NV's (I Think) custom front end. But they both still have them. It's not up to everybody else. I say stick em up there, if YOU like them, leave em, if you don't, that's why toolboxes have flat sides. Just my .02 cents anyway.
