80s cluster to 90s cluster

Has anybody swapped from an 80s model cable cluster to a 90s model gauge cluster (electronic VSS) in a camaro?

I'm not so much worried about the wiring of the speedometer as the rest of the cluster/gauges and the mounting

thanks

tpi roc,

Do you have a tpi setup and ECM in your car? If you do you probably dont need the VSS Buffer box because the ECM already has it built in to it.

TBI, Carbed Cars need the VSS Buffer, However it all depends on what year.

I just got a speedo buffer from thirdgenparts.com but it doesn't really match this pic. First the box is white, second some of the wires are different colors, and third I have one less wire. I know the part numbers for all these boxes are the same but it looks like the plugs may not be. I don't kow crap about wiring so please make sure im doing this right.

But the wiring I have from the top of pic down is
connector1
Yellow
Purple

connector 2
pink/black-H
brown-F
red-E
brown-C
black/white-A

On connector2 the wires are lettered A-H. Its hard to tell exactly from the pic above if the wires are in the same slots as mine. SO to be sure Im using the right wires can someone tell me the function of the letters that are used on mine? A-C-E-F-H ThanX

Re: 80s cluster to 90s cluster

87 firebird have a buffer box? that I should probably be checking out in my mission to figure out why my speedo does its own thing, wiring diagram shows one so I am guessing so. Just no clue what im looking for as far as buffer box goes.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTHYtr8YVrE would this black box be my biffer box, passenger side knee high behind glove thing.

(it did, and was yellow box under passengers side dash picky backed on the ecm, like ur pictures above
