rip out your dash with the VIN on it, put it in the white one. Have the white one painted blue and paint the blue one white with spray paint.
I did something like that with a Chevelle.
And whats a certificate of destruction? Why would somethng like that be put on a car? That white one sure is nice, I'd hate to see it destroyed.
Good luck man. I hope you can find a loop hole or something.
Or since it's titled(?) for destruction, could you claim a "rebuild" and have it titled as "salvaged" or something?

And this "friend" didn't know about this? Or what?
Find out its history; then research Florida law; there's almost always a way to re-title a car as a "rebuild", even if it's been totalled by an insurance company. Sounds like a stolen car to me, that some insurer wrote off.

I tried to legalize it here in alabama and they told me "no" cause i had no title for this car so i showed them the certificate of destruction and they told me they never saw that before that i had to go to florida and ask them for a title that way it can be put back on the road....with a salvage title,i can also do it but florida also issues a certificate of destruction title that it cannot be revoqued...CD states that i have to cut this car in pieces or strip it down only...Now this is just a guess...since this car was a 1 owner and the conditions of it,my best hint is that since engine wont run it was going to cost more to repair than its value (that only applies to someone who just dont appreciate the beuty of a third gen) so it was donated to adesa impact ,so, for this place was cheaper to put a CD than pay all fees for all transfer papers

I second the idea of swapping dashes!!!
Or you could hang on to it and build it into a race only car!!!
They can't stop you from owning it, only from registering it...

Something like that happened to my brother, I just moved from Tallahassee 3 weeks ago. He bought a 68' WV from a friend for $500. The only thing my brother had was a bill of sale, the D.M.V. had never had it registered in Florida, so the DMV put his VW as a salvage title. Maybe because it was so old.
[shameless plug]What i would give for a 25th Anniversay Decklid Emblem....[/shameless plug]
Anyway, just don't register the car........
Transfering a VIN number can get you in some serious trouble....
P.S. Go Florida State, I will be a seminole in about 2 weeks when school starts.....

Well, there is a story about a '63 Corvette (stolen) that had a VIN from a Corvair put in it that just read back as "2 door Chevrolet" and it wasn't caught for over 30 years... As long as it doesn't look obviously swapped, it probably isn't too hard to get away with.
Not that I am endorsing this sort of behavior...
BUT.. if it just says it needs to be "torn apart" do just that... take apart a bunch of stuff (which you would have to do anyway with the engine swap) and take pictures... that way you can say that YES, you did tear it apart like the CD said you had to, if i understand it correctly.

Why not get it inspected.
I mean, I bet if it were inspected by a DMV superviser or something you could at least get a salvage title on it.
CD makes no sense, unless the car has major frame issues or like gives the driver SARS.

Update
Well..i just received response to my email and i think i need some help understanding it....It may be ez to understand for you but at this moment i got too much in my head so please, can you translate this for me??
I quote:
"You inquired re how to register a car that has been issued a certificate of destruction.
The classification of a car as totaled or salvage is based on whether the car costs more to fix than it is worth (I know this because I just experienced it, and the insurance company is in control re making that determination). Re the statutes, salvage automobiles are referenced in ss. 319.14 and 319.30. Certificates of destruction are referenced in ss. 319.30 and 713.78. The statutes are available online at www.leg.state.fl.us.
The Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles regulates this area. I called them. They said you cannot do anything yourself. You would have to get the insurance company to get it "retracked" and replaced with a regular title in the insurance company's name (i.e., the insurance company has to reapply for a regular title in their name before it can be passed to you). The department representative cautioned that the insurance company may not be willing to do this because a car may be "fixable" and yet have some problems that make it not good for it to be on the road (her words).

In the mean time,i will contact my insurance company to c what they can do..(i think thats what she is trying to tell me that i have to do)

update
Well,i just talked to my insurance company and they told me they are going to insure the car but its not good enough cause i still need a title to get a tag for it....after so much talking to all kind of offices here in alabama they send me again to tallahasee...I think was the same woman who i talked b4 because she told me the same crap again but this time i did not kept my mouth shut and i told her the responce to my email from the florida legislature...I got her big time and finally she decided to listen...She gave me a phone number (miami department of highway safety and motor vehicles) and they were really nice and finally an answer i was looking for..."Yes,you can register this car ..but"..yes..a "but"..I need to run cars vin # with a police department to c which insurance company was the one who put the CD to this car...talk to them and c if they want to "retrack"..if they agree..then i got to go to florida and get it inspected...if it pass inspection, then i will be given a salvage title and maybe a new vin #....now,i got a question...if i fix this car like they told me i have to...does it means this car has to be,even, with the computer and all,or can i removed the computer and all that electric crap from the car and still pass inspection???Thanks
Not sure what FL laws are on emissions. But I assume you'll need the all the emissions equipment on to pass sniffer and definitely to pass visual. It's good that you're trying to get this car back on the road. Good luck!

I live in south Florida, a bit north of Miami, and currently we have no annual or otherwise inspection or emissions test. When I brought my Z28 back here from Colorado, all I did was go to the DMV with my CO title to get it transfered, no one even looked outside to make sure it was a car!!!
Hopefully, if the whole state is like this you won't have any trouble. However, don't take my word for it!!!! Call the DMV if FL and find out what you are going to be in for...
Good luck...

There is no emissions test in north Florida either. The only thing they get you on in Tallahassee is too dark of tint on your windows. I never heard of getting a car inspected in FL. maybe by the insurance company to see what the deal is.

It would be nice if you were to sell me the car; I might have a vin (a nameless 1984 camaro donor maybe?
) I hate this state and the morons that run it ^_^

As far as I know most of Florida doesn't have any emissions testing, however, smog laws are nationwide as far as I know. You may be well advised to assemble the vehicle in as near factory condition as possible for the test (you can always take it off again after).
If it's anything like England, the test consists of chassis alignment, checking vin numbers for stolen parts, or poor quality workmanship on safety items such as structure, brakes, etc (making sure it hasn't been a "cut and shut" job).
When I purchased my 3rd gen it had an "assigned" vin number which is located on the door frame instead of the usual place. I have a 'normal' tittle document and I get it tagged every year without problem, there is no indication on the tittle as to why is has the "assigned" number so I don't know if it was salvage or what.
Good luck

And this is the end of it
Well people,i hate to say this but thats it...ins company who put CD on car refused to get tittle back from tallahasee...
