The LS1 rules. I can not say enough good things about it. Crazy performance, great mileage and passes smog. The PCM is light years above the thirdgen unit. It allows fine tuning and facilitates data acquisition for real time or off line analysis. Factory redline at 6200. With cam, springs and pushrods, 6400. I could go on. Also can be stroked all the way to 427 CID.

Unquestionably a world class engine. The swap is not cheap but is coming down in cost. You can now buy motor mounts and trans tail mount from thirdgenresourse.

it is an awesome motor, but when it comes down to modding it when it wears on you and it feels slow... be ready to drop in some serious $$$$$$$

GEN1 small block cam: 100$ (comp)
GEN3 small block cam: 400$ (comp)

just be prepared to dish out some serious $$ down the road when you decide your car is slow again happens to all of us... "its fast its fast its ok..its ok... not that fast... man my car is slow... must make it faster!"

I know of a few LS1s that are running mid 12s with just a cam and headers..

However.. there are a few LT1s around here that can smoke LS1s on a regular basis.. LS1s are sweet but you can make an LT1 as fast for cheaper.. following the same rules.. cam, heads, and computer tune..
