How hard is it to rebuild the front end? My car wonders around some...Im thinking about getting all the front steering components from work and rebuilding it. Im torn between doing that or getting a posi rearend first. I need traction bad...

it isn't 'hard' but you do need to have acess to a press. the ball joints, and a-arm bushings need to be pressed in and out. you also need a pickle fork, for seperating the parts, and a spring compressor.

How about some info on those HMS mounts? Never seen those before, would like to know how they are better over stock, aside from the obvious appearance improvement. Where do you get them, and whats the cost?

do a search, it has been covered many many times, he did a limited run of 20 sets, we all paid over $300 when it was said and done. there are a couple other people making them now, and Karl Hunter of HMS, said he would do another run of 20 if there was interest. just do a seach for 'strut mount' or 'HMS mount' you will get a ton of info.

Dewey316, thanks for taking the time to post the info. After I posted the question, it occurred to me that I should have done the search first. Did the search, found the info. Sorry 'bout that.

hey Dewey, are you the guy who just finished the C4 upgrade. Is that the same one that was discussed on the LS1/C5 posts? I am still very confused about what brakes will work with what wheels. Are the C4's the only ones that will work with factory 15's ?

laiky,

I just did mine also. As far as we know, the C4s are the ONLY brake upgrade being tried out that will fit under those 15" wheels pictured. I have the factory 16s so it wasn't a problem on my end.

unfortunately my snow tires are on 15 inch z28 rims. Im about to buy a set of KDWS's for my 16's. if they work well enough in the snow i might be able to ditch the snows and just use the KDWS's Will the LS1 brakes fit the 16's. I know this has been covered but my short term memory sucks and the brake posts read like war and peace. I also remember reading ( i think it was you EB) that the C4 setup doesn't offer anymore piston area than the stock single piston setup? How do yours perform? Are they much better than stock?

its the factory paint. the exterior of my car is untouched exept for grid style tail lights, clear sidemarkers, and a 91-92 Z grill.

Right..the dual piston calipers have a bit less piston area which give you a harder pedal feel but the performance is better. Alloy can explain all that piston physics stuff better than I can.

They work great! I'm glad I did it. See my ad in the classifieds...

yes , the piston size is smaller, so it requires more pedal pressure ot get the same clamping force.

but the swept area is much larger, along with the leverage point, so the actualy stopping power is increased. the other BIG thing this swap helps, is the cooling, with these brakes the large rotors, ect disapate heat much better, we had a rather long auto-x course last weekend (close to 80sec) and i had NO brake fade at all during any of my runs.
