3rd accum chkbl capsl removal
What is the best method to remove the 3rd accumulator checkball capsule? 700R4 trans, in vehicle, checkball capsule is the one that extends into the servo bore.
I already tried the #4 screw extractor and then the 5/16 tap, then the 3/8 tap. The ball is still in the capsule (at the moment).
Is drilling a viable option?
Thanks,
RBob.

It's out
After some thought this is what I did:
5/16" drill and drilled just enough for the checkball to fall out. (the checkball was preventing the insertion of taps/screw extractor).
3/8-16 tap carefully threaded in until the checkball capsule broke free (I felt the 'thunk' as the capsule broke free and was able to spin).
Turned and pulled down on tap moving capsule downward. Once at the lower case edge the capsule didn't want to come out any further.
Switched to the #4 screw extractor (the spiral kind), turned it into the capsule and pulled capsule out.
The reason the screw extractor didn't work at first is because it wouldn't go into the capsule far enough to bite before hitting the upper end of the passage way.
This 3rd accum capsule had been placed 1/8" to deeper then the Helm manual specifies (factory).
Of course the big questions now is: cup plug or new capsule? I have both in preparation of this task.
RBob.
P.S. some hints: latex gloves dissolve in ATF, get the nitril or vinyl ones. Get some longer bolts of the same thread as the VB bolts. Cut heads off and round end. Use to guide gaskets, sep plate & VB into place.

Do not take out the checkball capsule assembly for the 3rd gear accumulator by blocking it with a plug. You can create other problems by doing this. Get a new check ball capsule and reinstall it.
