Those are looking good I just did mine too, but mine were the 16" IROC's. How long do you think it took you to polish those?

Well matt,

I've got 2 done the other two still have to be done. As you said in your thread, (by the way yours turned out great!), I bet I have 16 hours easy in the two rims. I significantly reduced the amount of time on the second rim by using 150 grit on a d/a sander then 220 then 320 wet - by hand and 400 wet. Probably cut 1.5 - 2 hours out.

In those pics it's a shame the "true shine" does not show up. They look much better in person.

sammy,

Actually you are the one that gave me the idea with your original post!

I painted them a truck-van metal flake black. This way there is more contrast with the polished surface and brake dust will not be as noticable on the non polished surface.

A little trick that worked for me was to polish first then paint after masking area. Remove tape as soon as you are done painting, so it does not pull on the painted area if it begins to set up. Then after about 1 hour with a old sock and some acetone wipe the excess off the polished area. Works great and gives a nice clean line.

Here is the paint that I used:

I have an Iroc and I opted to use a darker colour on the incerts as well, instead of black I went with a Charcoal grey metallic. I find it gives the rim a more defined look.

Actually, that was one of my first choices for color, however, two auto stores didn't have the color so I opted for the black, I'm happy with the way the black turned out.

novass: Awesome Formula! I love that shade of blue. The black wheel accent paint looks good too on those wheels.

I used gunmetal gray on my IROC wheels though...

how well will that paint hold up? duplicolor has a separate line of paint designed for rims called high performance wheel coating. they have silver, graphite, white, and a clear coat http://duplicolor.com/products/wheel.html i'm in the process of painting my rims (same style as yours). i'm too lazy to polish them though. hell i'm too lazy to tape them of so i can finish painting them lol. i painted the face sections with silver then clearcoated, and i'm going to paint the insets graphite and clearcoat them as well. so far, the silver with the clear coat looks pretty damn good for like 15 mins of work.

I have to ask. If your lazy why did you even Attempt at your wheels. I've Never polished and painted 1 wheel in less then 6 hours.

that's why i didn't even try to polish. i'm just painting them. it's only a temporary solution, the car will eventually get new rims. all i did was a little sanding to prep for paint, then painted, then cleared. so far i've done 2 rims, just gotta paint the insets, the faces look pretty good, might've spent a total of 1/2 hour on the two of them so far. i will probably tape them off this weekend and paint the insets, then i'll post some pics
