We were PISSED when we picked it up! But the shipping company is paying for it, so now we get to move on to the long list of repairs. All in all, not bad for a $720.00 car.

P.S. MINE IS STILL BETTER!!!:lala:

Well, mine is better than yours! Lets not make this a "Who's is better" thread. J/K

Amber, glad that your car is finally here. It is in better shape than you made it out to be. At least it runs.......................

Oh that just hurts.. I don't even want to know what they did to cause damage like that.. I think I'd have been paying for their hospital bills rather than them paying for the damage.. ouch =\ (did I mention I get severely attached to my cars?)

dealerships, they to me are the most reliable body shops, and even though it cost a pretty penny since your not paying for it then it's not a problem . Just make sure you check out the car after it's done.

das(aster)autoshippers!!

MAN that sucks! Looks like they tried to drive it out of the garage and the door closed on it! Good thing they are covering the cost. If it was my car, knowing my luck they would have gotten out of it somehow...

You know.. with the looks of it, the ONLY way to get a true paint match is going to have to be a complete paint job.

Get them for what you can. Have a favorite color? Start lookin'

It gets worse! Upon closer inspection there is no dipstick! We found the hole, but it's on the driver's side. It looks like someone put an older small block in the car to replace the TBI, but he put the STOCK manifolds back on. I'm guessing I need to put headers on to give me better access to the hole. The previous owner did a bang up job on this car.

GTA, pop the air cleaner off and take a couple pics of the engine bay, valve covers, intake manifold, engine accessories, etc.. I'll give you a state of emissions review...

OK, we put in the new valve cover gaskets and found a hole in the valve cover! The valve cover gasket was the same size as an 83 firebird, not a 91 firebird. So it's definately not the original motor. Does anyone know how to figure out the engine size? I can't see anything on the block.

On the very back of the block by the distributor on the drivers side "don't know if you'll even see it." There is some writing on a flat piece that will say either GM305 or GM350.

Other than that you could have gotten the casting no. off of the heads in between the springs and the rockers while replaceing the gaskets, running the heads casting no. on a head search engine would tell you what cc they were as well as year motor, either 58cc for a 305 or 64cc for a 350.

if it is a 91 and it has perimeter bolt valve covers that would be a give away that it is a pre-87 motor.

"head aches" ok enough info lol.

we think it is an 83 motor, we just changed the valve cover gaskets last night and had to get an 83 valve cover gasket.

Now the electrical system is on the fritz! The headlights, tailights, interior light, dash lights, and trunk motor stopped working. They flickered a bit then died again, any suggestions the engine bay is a wiring mess!

its not too difficult to find the engine block #, though there are different locations depending on the year of the block and there are numbers all over them anyways. "5SIZ" has it though you should be able to find GM305 or GM350 raised letters/#'s you cuold try looking on the rear driverside of the block just behind the head on the flat area where the Trans bolts up. I wish it was that ez to find a valve cover gasket 4 a specific year and thats what the engine is(though sometimes a geuss is good enough)... If i remember Error404's car (VIN) was a 1986 TPI but it had a 1986 350TPI there where only 10 camaro's if that produced with a 5.7L TPI in that year it turned out that it was a Truck engine.

That might be part of you problem.
Sometimes a bad or dirty ground wire can be to blame. I would advise against getting a Junkyard wiring harness, below is a link that shows partially what a J-yard harness looks like i spent a better part of 1 month testing the harness out and splicing in wires to make the bugger work. that is after i found out there were boards like this to help me out. . but keep in mind i mixed BOP with Chevy.

It's supposed to be on the driver's side, on the back of the block. I see the GM but someone took the plate off with the engine number, now there are just 2 little holes.
