Buffer box Wireing????????

If anyone has wiring diagrams for a 3rdgen that used an electric speedo and had a seperate buffer box like the late 80's firebirds and some tbi cars, can you get me the functions of the wires on connector 2 of the buffer box. The wires I have are listed below. I did a search and saw a couple of pics of these boxes and plugs and they had different colored wires or differ # of wires than mine.

connector1
Yellow
Purple

connector 2

A-black/white
C-brown
E-red
F-brown
H-pink/black

On connector2 the wires are lettered A-H. Its hard to tell exactly from the pics I saw when I searched if the wires were in the same slots as mine. SO to be sure Im using the right wires can someone tell me the function of the wires in slots A-C-E-F and H ???

Hi John...still wrestling with this are you? You are persistant; I hope it works out!

When I installed the box in my Formula, the second connector went on in reverse order to what you have listed for the colors.

A-black/white goes to ground
C-brown (2 wires) sent the signal to the ECM for convertor lockup, cruise, etc.
E-red ?
F-brown ? my next one was green with a black stripe which went to the speedo head
H-pink/black was a switched 12v power source

Below is a slightly brightened version of the original scan of the buffer box.

I just looked at the 92 Shop Manual and found the following chart for the V8 engine (Vin Code 'E')

C2
A)Black/White = Ground
C)Tan = Instument Cluster input
E)Red = Cruise Module
F)Brown = ECM input
H)Pink/black = Ignition

ThanX guys.
John in RI, I just found out my box was from a '92 so that should work out great.

Hopefully I can get this project started and done soon.

What cars can I get a buffer box out of and where are these things located in the cars? Thanks.

On the 86-up Firebirds, they are piggybacked onto the ECM above the passenger footwell.

These things wer mounted in all the 84-86 Berlinettas and the 92 TBI cars that I know of.

I know the Firebirds used the electric Speedo sending unit around 87 & up - but don't know what years or engines types used the VSS box.

Pete: I wrote this post before you - but was kicked ofline and posted it after you !
