heater hose routing question
my car was gutted a long time ago for strip only, but now i am slowly piecing it back together for a little bit of comfort. I installed a non-a/c heater box and everything to go along with it. I can not run the heater hoses the way the factory did due to lack of fitting on the intake manifold. So my idea is to run the larger of the two hoses(3/4") to the water pump and the smaller hose(5/8") to a radiator out of a fuel injected style radiator---remember carb'd cars had no fitting on the radiator--only intake manifold and water pump.
My question is as follows: Will coolant still circulate properly utilizing the water pump as the send and the radiator as the return? was the water pump the send from the factory and the intake the return?

Coolant flows out of the intake manifold to the heater core and then back to the suction side of the water pump, or returns back to the radiator in the case of TPI cars.

There has to be SOME coolant port on the intake. It doesn't matter if it's in the same place, or even the same channel really. I've never seen an intake that didn't have a port for a temp sender (except homemade sheetmetal intakes.)
If it comes down to it you can use the port in the side of the head between cylinders 6 and 8 as a feed port, and return to either the pump or the radiator. If you already have a sensor in that port just put a T fitting in it.

well actually that temp port is being used by my autometer temp sensor, guess now it'll be bumped up to the water neck and the heat fitting moved back there. thanks for the suggestions.
