what are these parts called? *pics*
Well im trying to piece my heater back together because its seems a lot of stuff is missing from before i had it. I looked at my buddy's car today to see what i need to do because he has the same car pretty much. I need to know what these parts are that the heater hoses connect to and if i really need them to have a working heater. Thanks alot

1 is the smog pump diverter.....completely unrelated to the heater.
2 is the air injector tubing.....also completely unrelated to the heater.
3 appears to be about 2" of plug wire......I can't see anything else there.
Here's what you need for a functioning heater: a heater core, hoses going to it, and a blower motor. Everything else is decoration or accessory. The ducting behind the dash has vacuum actuators that you'll need to hook up if you want your defroster to work, and the plastic valve with 3 hoses and a vac line going to it (above circle 1) is the heater control valve. It diverts coolant flow away from the heater core when you have the slider at the cold end to keep your A/C from blowing heat.

Yeah, what he said basically... I lost my password and couldn't post, it's been too long!
As long as I'm seeing your picture correctly, those are all parts of the AIR injection system. Of course, those parts are not needed for your heater, and are not needed in order for the car to run either.

ok, thanks alot for your help. I just got my heater valve and hoses and just want to verify that i have the connections right before i hook it up this weekend. In this picture i would say that #1 is where the coolant enters the valve and #2 goes into the heater core and #3 goes to the radiator. Is that all right?

You have 2 and 3 backwards.
#1 is where the coolant comes in from the intake
#2 is the bypass....it goes down to that metal line that runs up the frame rail to the radiator
#3 is the supply hose to the heater core.
