Does TBI Trucks Have Smog Pumps?

I was working on a friends 350TBI truck(late 80s-early90s) a while back(around 8-10 months) and I'm thinking that it had no smog pump. Does anybody know anything about this? If they don't I'm wanting to get the right side AC mount to use on my RS. I removed my smog pump and it would be nice to swap the bracket that holds the AC and the smog pump out for one that just holds the AC. More room and cleaner engine bay is always nice, Huh? Thanks, Bobby

If it has a cat it has an air pump. If it was a late 80's to early 90's truck it had a cat.

It was a Suburban with a 350TBI auto trans. I do know that trucks have lower emmision laws to meet. Maybe it(smog pump) was just on the other the other side though. I know for sure it had a cat. conv. It had a serpentine belt setup just like mine, but I do remember the belt went on a different way(thats what I replaced for him). Would sure like to talk to someone with a TBI V8 truck right now, that dude moved away. Any V8 TBI truck owners out there?

My '94 c1500 does not have smog pump or air pump. Although my friends '92 c2500 did have one. What do you need to know?

My 91 C2500 didn't come with a smog pump.

The bracket does have the smog pump mounting tabs though.

<strike>Do a search on the brackets. I'm pretty sure I've read here that the truck brackets are too tall for the Fbody. </strike>

oops

Guess the memory is failing.... argh

Thats the weird thing, my friends dad has a '92 c2500 without one and he has a c2500 with one. Both TBI 350, one auto(700r4), and the other 5 spd. I will take some pics of mine tomorrow and post them, If i get home before dark.

I know this is a stupid question but, do the trucks that don't have air pumps have cats?

I thought all cats needed extra air to help light them off or keep them lite at idle or low rpm.

My stepmom has a 90 c1500, stock everything but wheels and exhaust and she has no pump. She also has no cats either...

Lo-N-Slo,
Some pics would be nice. Anyone else know anything about the truck brackets being taller than a F-body's? It would be so sweet to not have that extra spot in the bracket, lot cleaner looking too!

I am very interested in this as well. I asked this question a long time ago and I was told there was no alternative to the stock bracket, but if the truck one works I'm all over it. Does it make a difference what years they come off of?

I looked at two trucks today. Both had no smog pump, but had a place for one. Both also had cat conv(big, fat a$$ ones). Guess were just stuck with the smog/AC bracket. Though I am going to check with some of the aftermarket serpitene belt setup companys. If I find anything usefull out I'll post it.

Ive always wondered about that. My 4.3 had no smog pump on it either, but if i remember correctly, everything else was in jsut about the same place as an f-body. I remember it sticking out a bit further from the engine, though so im not entirly sure it would squeeze into a V8 3rd gen.

It really depends on the truck… my '92 K1500 blazer had a big cat and no smog pump from the factory. The only emissions deviced according to the smog lable are the cat, EGR and PCV.

My '87 formula has the older style brackets with the AC on the driver's side and the alt on the passenger, the reverse of the newer style on my truck. I seem to remember there is something different about the truck vs the f-body brackets, but I've got nothing to compare to. I don't believe that the truck has a bracket for a smog pump at all

My 91, 454, 3/4t, C2500, had dual cats, and no smog pump.
Crazy calibration stuff thou.
Getting the cal correct unleashed alot of HP, and improved drivibility.

While not TBI, the 86-87 Grand Nationals, had cats, and no air pumps.

What purpose does the air pump really have if it's not nessesary on all applications?

The two that I looked at were the same as a F-body's brackets. They had no smog pump and no holes in the manifold for the air injection. But there was a plase to bolt a smog pump on the bracket. It looked just like mine with the smog pump off. One was a '89 LO3 305 TBI and the other was a '90 LO5 350 TBI.

Mines a '94 and it doesn't have any thing on it for smog pump. Just an AC comp and an idler pulley. So this is probably what you guys are looking for!!

Is the ac on the passenger side and when you say idler do you mean tensioner?

What are you actually looking for? I'm putting a new radiator in my '92 K1500 and with the radiator out I could take pictures of most if it without doing my best impression of a 300# double jointed gymnast/contortionist.

I'm just looking for a stock type bracket for the passenger side ac and tensioner, but without any provisions for a smog pump at all (no gaping hole)

Well, maybe these will help (if you want I've got larger pics, like 1500xSomething). If you need an angle that you don't see tell me.

I think this may be what were looking for! It seemes GM changed the bracket in or around late '92. I just need to see some of these in person to be forsure that they'll work, but I think this is what I've been looking for for about 3 to 4 years.

Looks like it still has an idler pulley though. Why not just get a smog pump delete pulley instead?

What is a smog pump delete pulley??? I have no smog pump or a delete pulley. The two trucks I saw had no pump or delete pulley. Besides that bracket up there looks a lot better/cleaner to me, thats exactly what I've been looking for!
