I appreciate him living a life where he took chances, had fun and STILL made money.

There are many people doing similar things, but he made it cool on a bunch of levels others can't touch.

Cars that are emissions legal AND double the OEM output.
Cars that don't break even though they have trick parts.
Cars that can tool around town, zip down the highway and scream at the track.
Cars that could only be surpassed by spending 2-3 times as much.

At least he was doing what he wanted to do. That's the example all of us should take from him.

Why wouldn't they? He's been in a coma for over a year and the company was still operating.

I have some good memories of John.

In the years between 87-89, I had Lingenfelters working on my 86 TA. One time when I went to pick up the car, I had to wait a couple hours for them to finish the car. John threw me the keys to a 383 Vette that they had. When I came back, he threw me the keys to his ZR1. The ZR1 was not modified at the time but still a thrill to drive both cars.

Over the years I built my car using the Lingenfelter philosophy. Keep it looking stock but with a highly modified engine and drivetrain.

He will be missed!

RIP

I envy you HiTech5. Would've loved to have the chance to meet the master of the fuel injected small block Chevy! A sad day for all of us indeed, but at least he went doing what he lived for!

thing is it would take more than just a duplicate of that cavi.

he knew how to drive. and he knew how to drive extreamly well. especially that car. it would take another driver years to even come close to what john did.

Every year the hobby looses more of it's old timers who paved the way for the way we do things today. John wasn't that old, but he certainly paved the way. He was an incredibly intelligent and successful man who made a living do what he loved. We should all be so fortunate. If they've got drag racing in heaven, and I hope to *** they do, I know Jungle Jim's got his hands full now that Lingenfelter has arrived! We all miss you John, and we'll never forget the impact you had on the hobby we all love.

I would like to pay tribute to J. Lingenfelter as well. His book on SBC's was the catalyst that sparked my interest in hotrodding and chevys in general. I even bought parts he designed, just becaused I believe his philosophy on how to mod a car. John loved max tq in a street car, which was an econonmical way to go fast as well as a reliable way. RIP, John, we'll miss ya.
