LS1 tubuler k-member and conversion parts
Has anyone seen the hawks website latly(http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/) they are selling a k-member made for the ls1 swap with a-rms, coil overs, and long tube headers made for the swap. I am planning on doing this swap next summer and i was hoping that somthing like this would come out to make the swap easier, but my question is who is making this, is it hawks or another company. Is that k-member made for the street or not. Plus i know that spohn is supposed to come out with a product just like this and how is this going to compare to his product. If anyone has any comments or answeres about these parts that would be great. I think that a package with all those conversion parts are great.

Awesome, can anyone get a hold of him and ask him if this setup will work for an LT1, i'd love to use a tubular k-member and switch to coil over struts.

umm, since you can get replcaement LS1 motor mounts
and tubular K members that hold motor mounts..
you can use ANY tubular K member with the LS1, LT1 or SBC. just bolt the mounts on them.
PA racing (amoung others) makes the coil over a option for their parts....
the only thing special about this is they put it as a "package deal"

did you see that they had a Power rack and pinion for the k-member. Do u know if this is from the 4th gen camaro or from somthing else. nobody told me who makes this k-member and products, cause i dont think its hawks them selves producing these.

I wonder if the LS1 mounts would work for my 8.1 swap? I hear the mounts are the same for LS1, LS6, LQ4, LQ9 and L18. If so, I could use one of these, lol.

basically just lighter, takes of less space, not sure if its stronger or just as strong though. I just would like to do it because of the ability to use coil overs in the front.

The biggest benefits are weight and space savings. Plus, less parts to worry about going bad, kinda lol. Since you only have the outer and inner tie rods to worry about. The internals don't go bad very often. And even lighter for a non-power rack, and easier to turn, sometimes, than a normal gearbox steering assembly.
I'm going with a manual Pinto rack whenever I get my tubular K-member.

this is really started to **** me off, can't get a hold of hawks and doesnt seem taht anyone else has any information about this......anyone.
I received my Pro-Fab 3rd gen k-member, a-arms, and coilovers today.
I had received my spohn motor mounts.
Guess what? The motor mounts don't fit the k-member bolt holes.
They are supposed to be the stock location. I will have to figure something out.

IMO i WOULD NEVER run a tubular k member on a street car...
the OEM one is BEEFY for a reason...after you flatten that exhast what do you think the next thing to hit is?,..that big BEEFY k-member...it may be big and carry some weight to it, but itll take a HELLUVA beating and save your motor...maybe if they made the lower portion boxed or something...but as it is now theres not enough there to take a hit like the OEM peice can...
now tubular a arms and everyhitng i dont have a problem with

yea i dont know i hear that spohns unit is supposed to be strong enough to fit the street need. Or at least i hope so.
I rechecked the mounts and K-member today and they do line up. It was to late last night, I got confused how the things mount up.
As far as street driving with k-member: It won't be a daily drive, I don't plan on lowering to the point of having to worry about scraping. I'll have headers so I will have to worry more about them than the motor.
I'll let ya'll know if I run into any problem for street driving with a k-member.

my car isnt lowered, and theres ALWAYS those unexpected bottom outs...ive done it twice to mine and both scared the F**K outt me and really upset the car,,,so i know it took a hit...when you hit the exhasut its a scrape..when you hit the K-member the whole car flexes...i wouldnt trust that tubular peice on anything but a roadcourse..
