Hawks' Five-Inch Spoiler Installed.
First off, the fit and finish as I received it is good. It did require sanding. Nothing out of the ordinary for a fiberglass piece.
This spoiler is listed as a direct bolt-in for non-third brake light spoiler Camaros. Don't let that discourage you if you have a third brake light. If you're willing to make a couple of minor mods, it's not that hard. The two center studs on the center piece are in the wrong position. They need to be moved outwards. I did this by cutting off the two studs, cutting an access slot on the underside of the spoiler for the two new studs, drilling two new holes and sliding bolts in from the backside, The two side holes in the quarter panels for the side pieces need to be reamed out slightly towards the rear of the car. The top hole cannot be used -- too far forward. Drill 3/8" holes about 1-1/4" behind the existing holes. That's it!
Because I have a third brake light, I decided to take it once step further. Since I already had to cut an access slot, I installed a 48-LED light bar, a la Cadillac. This took a lot of time and patience and several different ideas (and trips to the hardware store!) to get it right. The back surface between the LED's is mirrored and I made a clear lens. In the future, I might try smoked or maybe even a red lens.... In either case, the finished product came out relatively nice. Sorry, I don't have a closeup of the light bar yet. Suffice it to say, with my cowl hood, the spoiler looks good..... now maybe some heritage striping???

Is it just me or does the LED brake light seem to go just a tiny bit farther to the right than the left? It looks good tho, especially from the side.

I think it's just the angle. Looks good though..........but it's missing something. Oh I know... the Supercharged 305 sticker. Good job Willie.

The side view of that spoiler looks kick ***!! The led light bar is nice looking too but it kinda looks too slim for that spoiler. Either way though I think it looks great. Thanks for the pics!!

The LED bar looks centered properly to me. Follow the edges of the LED bar straight down and you will see that it is even with the tail lights on each side.
I think it looks sweet.

i like it, if i wasnt getting rims and tires this year i would get one for my trans am . I would have someone mod the side pieces so that it would look good on a ta. I think hawks should work on one for a ta. I like it, they shoulda come from the factory with a spoiler that big.

The light bar is centered. I made absolutely sure it was before cutting. It shows up not true because of the angle in which I took the pic.
It does resemble the second gen spoiler but I did not realize until after I installed it that there is one difference. The rear surface of this spoiler, although slightly curved, is basically flat. I don't like this. It's too flat and makes the spoiler look like a billboard!! It doesn't help that my car is white (bland color). Just makes it look that much worse, I think.
The second gen spoiler has a lower and upper sections which are at an angle to each other. So in order to make it look acceptable, I'll be changing the color on the lower section. I'm trying to visualize how gloss black would look on the lowest one inch or so. It would make it "appear" to be part of the black taillight section. Experimentation with some wide striping tape is in order! Just happen to have a one-inch wide roll of gloss black..... Now if it would just stop raining....

Oh man thats hot. It would be cool if you did like a transparent white over the third brake lense so it wasnt noticable unless lit up.

This spoiler is like rear window louvers; you either love it or hate it.
It didn't come out as I'd hoped. From directly behind, the thing looks like a whitewashed billboard. So, I've been playing around trying to not make it look so huge, playing tricks with colors. I like it better now (subject to opinion of course).
Yes, it would be nice if I could use a transparent white lens but doing so diffuses the LED's so much that I don't like it. With my newest change though, it doesn't stand out as much.

I dunno, I just think that spoiler looks weird. Not really bad, just weird. Just my opinion though

Spoiler does look out of place, but the LED's look sweet. Very nice install.

Hell yea baby expecting mine sometime this week. Until i get the car painted mine isnt going to be the stock color i'm either doing it black, silver or a teal thats fairly close to stock. I love it looks sexxier than **** cant wait to get mine.
Heres a question? The holes that didnt work. Did they not work becasue of the position of the third brakelight in comparison to the stock holes. Its meant for non third light camaros so i wonder if i will have post-hole problems or if it will slide right in. Looks good bro thanks for getting us the gp on these:hail:

Nice job. I agree with the smoked or neutral density lens for the third brake light. Maybe similar to what Pontiac did with the T/A taillights. And it does have a slight retro touch similar to the early '70s Z-28s with the larger spoiler.

I commented on a spoiler more like the Lamborghini's although straight across but lifted from the surface...in regard to the other spoiler thread. I know Camaro's and Firebirds differ, but there are those ones that run along the base of the trunk for both cars. My question is is there a specific different name? Often I might say air-foil, but it just doesn't sound right. I'd refer to the front versions as 'air dams', What's the correct terms I should be using??
As far as the Cadillac style brake light, I've always felt they hit on the idea that should have been employed from the inception...it's classy and does it's intent w/o being obvious from the cabin, and taking up space.
I've owned a Cadillac, and own one now as well, so I think it's a novel approach. Me likes

Looks excellent willie! I personally, like the oem brake light with LED's in it, but yours still looks great.
I still haven't received mine yet.

looks awesome man! I think if you put a 91-92 bumper on there it would look even better. The little flare part would compliment the spoiler. good job on the install

I have one of those on my 83 Z28, I'm a big fan of that spoiler, the stocker looks too small and most of the rest appear to make a great handle for something. That spoiler reminds me of the mid 80 trans-am cars. Nice job on the install.

Willie,
I like the spoiler, I actually have one myself and my car is also white. I couldn't agree with you more on the rear look, it just doesn't seem to blend in that well (nice job with the tape btw). I also think that the left and right sections might be a little too much! I was thinking of shortening both side and center sections a little before I have the car painted. I am just not 100% happy with the way it looks. I do however think that Bruce did a fabulous job designing it! I just need to tailor it to my liking.
BTW, where did you get the light bar? I was thinking of doing something similar to that.

So who else has theres already? I got mine today. Emailed him the other day casue it had yet to bill and was supposed to be billed and shipped on april 19th. They said they had shipped it on the 6th and it showed up this afternoon. Test fitted it and fit good. Had to slightly ream the two holes on the far left of the deck but we're talking minor. Had some teal paint but when i saw the massiveness of the wing i decided i dint have enough and didnt have enough to go buy another can so i rattle canned it gloss black for now the cars getting paint this summer so i'll do the full prep work then. I like how it looks though and that was primed. TOmmorrow mornign i'll put it on and get some good pics to post.

I have yet to do mine...many other projects going on with the same car. I have swapped my 91 Aerowing hatch and sold it. My car is not drilled on the end caps (quarter panels). Anyone have a suggetion on how to do this and get it as close to right the first time? Measurements...anything of the sort? I have the 91 rear valence so hopefully that will balance the massiveness of the spoiler from the rear. After all 91-92 cars are all flaired out anyways...it just might look "right".
Nice job willie. The spoiler looks great on your car IMO. The tape trick is kinda neat. If I don't like mine i may borrow your trick (if it's ok), and I should be able to pull it off with the blackouts on the back. I figure my car will prolly look like the white one on Hawks website. And BTW...thanks for getting the g.p. to happen. I am more than pleased with the spoiler. I commend Bruce on a great product, and for the free t-shirt too.

WOW thats a bit to much, i think the highrise spoiler looks alot better. i luv the brake light though do they make stock size ones with the brake like in it? so u can just buy the middle part of the spoiler?

Looks great! Wish I could afford to do things like that... but then again, your car deserves it! Gotta be my fav 3rd gen... not sucking up or anything either!
First of all, I'm amazed by the polarity of responses to this spoiler, folks either love it or hate it..... very few middle of the road comments, lol! Personally, I love it! Definately on my list of mods, for sure! I'm a huge NASCAR fan, and when I first saw this unit, I thought "Cool! NASCAR! Gotta have it!!" It definately makes your car look a bit wider, I think because it adds an illusion of width up high that the stock spoiler lacks. I also agree that the color of your car makes it stand out a bit more than it would on say, a black, blue or red Camaro. The tape mod is slick, makes the dark area between the lights look a bit more massive, aggressive. Very well done! :hail:
One question, is there enough space inside the spoiler to possibly fab in the stock third brake light? It looks to be a bit thinner front to back than the stock unit.
