Anyone heard of dealer installed options to a 1982 camaro?
I have a 1982 camaro that is unique. It has a super sport badge under the dash camaro badge, it also has super sport on the rear bumper opposite of the camaro logo. Now the camaros vin is 1G1AP87H1CL162242. I ran the vin and it comes back base or Z28 camaro. I am the 3rd owner I bought it from a friend, who bought it from his brother in Fortlauderdale FL. He told me that the super sport option was an option to the Z28 in 82. Now the car is a little odd also because it was bought with out ground effects or a spoiler or the right front bumper for a Z28, this car never came with any of this stuff. So Istarted to think that the car was not a Z28. So a dealer checked the body tag and it had the code 1FP87 which means it is the Z28. Also the partial vin 162242 on the body tag matches the vin tag. My friends at my gm dealer said it could have been a dealer installed option, but I have been unable to find any information on this. Since my dealer could only go back to 84. I have never seen another car like this nor has anyone else. Many people do not belive it but when they inspect the car they are believers because the emblems are not tampered with and the entire decal on the rear bumper how it is set up on the rear bumper is unique. I would like to find out how I could get information about this? I wish I had the dealer window sticker than I would have proof. If anyone knows anything about this please contact with info. .
"1FP87" only designates that it is a Camaro Series model, not that it is a Z28 or any specific model. If it was "bought with out ground effects or a spoiler or the right front bumper for a Z28" and the sticker is the only other noticable difference, it is nothing more than an Sport Coupe with a couple stickers on it. I would say your friend is pulling your leg.
I agree with RecaroTA. There were no "SS" camaros in 82 and if there are no ground effects, it is not a Z28. These cars are pretty old and there are some crazy things that people have done to them.
Post some pictures of it and I am sure someone could ID the emblems and let you know what they came from.
Also, I started a post about getting build sheets for your car, try and get that and I am sure it will show a base camaro..
