Manifold to runner oil leak

I'm in the middle of a fuel injector swap, and I pulled the driver's side runner off the manifold and found that oil was leaking at one of the runner ports.

Is this bad?

Also, if you look at the inside of the runners they are filthy! Is this normal? How does that happen?

It's hard to tell if it is really oil leaking or if that is the return.

Take a look at this current thread and see if it helps.

the runners are dirty inside from EGR gasses combined with oil vapor from the PCV valve. basically the crankcase vents oil vapor into the intake, and when that mixes with exhaust gas in the intake, you get the nasty black mess. happens to all of us and is normal.

the oil on the intake is also a common problem for many of us. for me it almost cost me an engine. what happens is that the intake base bolts come loose, oil vapor travels up the threads and pools on top of the intake. well my bolts had worked loose, and been loose for so long, that the gasket between the intake base and the cylinder head deteriorated. and as a result the engine sucked oil from the top of the intake (similar to a vaccum leak) and would smoke when i revved it up and when i took off from a stop light. i also had antifreeze leaking into the oil that caused the crankshaft main and rod bearings to become pitted, i caught this when i did my cam swap and ended up rebuilding my whole engine a few years ago.

i believe i had a pretty severe case of this, i dont think many guys had oil pooling as bad as i did, but this is a problem none the less. the fix for this is really easy. jsut pull the intake base and replace the intake manifold gaskets with good quality replacements and use a thread sealer when you reinstall the bolts for the intake base. i used the same sealer i used on my head bolts when i bolted my intake base back down and havent had any leaks or loose bolts in years.
