Wilwood 6pot Front setup-Part2

Just finished drilling my bracket bolts for safety wire. I bolted one spindle together, then grabbed the other and hand threaded it going- grabbed the air racket (on low setting) and lightly drove in the bolt about 2/3rds the way and it gradually started resistence- so I stopped. Grabbed a hand rachet and in 1/2 back 1/4 forward increments starting working it back out but it just got tighter- I must have nicked the damn threads on the grade9 allen bolt when I set everything up in the drillvice.- Ohwell, Gotta get another spindle and redo the passenger side- stuff happens. There goes about $25 and about 2 hours, not a major deal but just fustrating. Here's the drivers side safety wired.

Hubcentric wheel spacers arrived today finally. Time now for the brake lines and longer 3" wheel studs. This is getting very close finally.

Those problems always seem to creep up. One minute its almost finished, the next its back to being a project for another day.

Those spacers custom made?

Thanks for the update and info Dean! Keep us posted. I'll delay the AP Racing upgrade for a while until this is finished incase I can organise these for the GTA wheels.

Here's the basic rundown of parts and cost.
------------------------------

GW billet aluminum G-body (yes g-body) hubs, races, and bearing
$500

Wilwood LS1 6pot caliper and 2pc SRP 1.25x12.90 rotor kit from Summit racing Part #WIL-140-7763D. Same basic kit as the 4th gen road race version only with a lighter weight & zinc washed rotor and streetable "Q"brake pad compound rather than the "J"
$1412

Exchanged radial mounts from the ones in the kit to the new units.
How you do this morally is your problem- cost me $8.95 shipping

Custom made aluminum caliper brackets (qty 2) through EMachineShop I had them specially coated also for heat.
$233 ouch- but they are they exact way I wanted them -no fuss.

Custom made Aluminum hubcentric wheel spacers for use of "rears" Iroc rims on the front (4 wheel rotation purposes- this is important to me so worth the money. These measurement are completely different if you intend on using any other rims other that Iroc "rears" on the front. Again through EMachineShop and custom coated for heat and corrosion.
$237

Bolts, nuts, drillbits, taps and various other odds and ends to grind, drill, and fit the assembly to the spindles and secure.
$100 aprox

ARP 1/2"x 2.970/ .568 knurl longer wheel studs + lug nuts
$40

Need to have custom brke lines and fitting made from George at TMR rears cost me $35 from him (Friend of a friend)
Say to be fair-it should be aprox $100 with all fittings and Solo-bleeders.

Option- I opted to buy a spare set of spindles and modifiy them rather than having my car down for the duration it took to engineer this setup to work- first two were $50, the spare pass side spindle I had to replace after my goof was another $30.
$80 total

I have invested aprox $2700 to get this to work under the 16" factory IROC "rear" rims on front- safely and very low unsprung weight for its size.

i'd say that's about average in price until you said it can fit under 16's... that's definately a nice option in that case.

On the contrary, 21lbs per rim is not bad at all. I don't need wider tires on this car because of its lightness like the V8's do. So my 245/50-16's are lighter than any with 17's and 18's running wider rims. The CCW racing rims are the same weight in a 17x9.5 rim.

John, They way I see it, for a daily driver streetcar I'm doing better than most here for street rims when it comes to unsprung weight. There's a point where looks and function paly a part and the money spent to correct this is way out of proportion to gain any benefit. If I ever pick up a second set of rims for the car for racing tires, I will definatlely spend the money- right now this car is for designated street use function and the IROC's look much prettier:lala:

Yes folks, some things I do ARE in fact for "fuu-fuu" looks, afterall, it is the wifes car (that I have grown addicted to by accident)

ditto. perhaps not for every day driving, but atleast for autoX...

Expensive for one-offs (No production pieces), but you have to remember the convenience of seeing the actually CAD file in 3D before you finalise the purchase making sure you exactly see what ther result will be. Plus the convenience of having may finish options as well as heat coatings. No running across town fussing to get different things done.

The two spacers for eample were $233, I could have ordered two more at the same time for only about another $100. Price really gets reasonable with about 100+ units ordered.

They are on time or even earlier in the two cases I have used them. The projected date on the last order was Oct 30 and I recieved them on the 27th.

You could always take the old grinder to the spokes. Just grind down and radius the sharp edges, and remove some mass from the center of the spokes in between the hub and outer radius of the rim.

Braided lines and fitting are done. Rest of the parts (ARP 1/2"x3"studs, Moroso racing lugs& Solo-bleeds) will be here tomorrow from Summit. I FINALLY have everything and will be putting the setup on the car over the X-mas break positively. I took a picture of the assembly sitting inside one of my Iroc rims. Clearences are perfect everywhere (front and rear sides), just need the longer wheelstuds to bolt it on securely to the rims

Looking good. I wish I had a set of stock iroc or 90-92 rs/z28 rims I could install on my car to get my setup finished. I HAD to pass inspection and did NOT want to spend $$$ on 17's with adaptors so I spend $250 and rebuilt my current brakes with new everything. I still have my setup ready to bolt in once I get some 17's or "roomy" 16's. For $500 you could have c5 discs with wilwood 4 pots, a little heavy yes but WOW does it stop.
I like the way you made those spacers!
I'm going to have to use heavy adaptors if I go 17's . Have a friend that'll be selling me his SS wheels this summer so that's why I'm waiting to finish up my brakes. If somebody wants my brake kit finished send me the high clearance camaro wheels!!!
