Conversion?

Is it possible to convert a hardtop/T-top into a fully-functional convertible?

Sure every convertible here went through it, via ACS.

I've NEVER heard of ASC using rusted cars to convert.. You have to be mistaken me thinks.
They do factory conversions...or did.
Currently I'd have to say I'm not sure who does work like the new Chevy retro-truck vert or the Corvette. My attention usually wanes on vehicles way out of my wallet book range, except the odd exotic. The funny thing is old Motor Trends and the like are quite fun to reexamine in 10 or more years time. I think even some firm opinions in hindsight would be altered.

Remember the cool thing about F car verts vs. the Vette is the rear seat does remain...quite nice to actually still have.

Bingo! But you'll need to be a little bit more creative then that. You'll need to cut out all the welded convertible pieces and re-weld them into the project car. Having major fabrication tools and skills would go a long way in doing this. For the most part though it's usually easier and cheaper to buy a vert and make it what you want it to be.

I was trying to get Camaro vert parts for my Firebird...would the decklid hinges work? I suspect the decklids are different. The example of an 82, at that point not aware of ASC doing them, but California coach builders did GM cars like the San Remo convertibles in the late 1970s. I came across a simcon Deville in the junkyard with ASC badging. My simcon Deville has badging under the trunk decklid from another conversion house, yet I really think this is still a factory simcon. The only noticable difference bothering me is Caddy sail panel crest/wreath though these can be added, and are in my resto plans

If you have fab skills it can be done... Mine is looking better then the factory job.

Im also mini tubbing it while Im at it.

T-Tops

TARGA Top..

I was gona keep it as a Traga and finish a carbonfiber top I was doing. but a buddy jay plans to do it also.....

http://www.cecoatings.com/images/Car...gatop/low1.jpg

and now off to a Fully Funcitonal vert like if the factory did it.

Tono open some so you can see the where the Mini Tubbs will be and still keep the back seats. This will let me stuff a 315 under the lip no problem.

This is a 27x11.5 Slick. under the lip

Thought I was looking at a 4th gen project there!
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you mean to say 'Targa' top, where the rear roof sail and window remain... a T top without the center glass support

The work looks exhausting but I think the killer term should fit when completed. Quite an interesting collection of items.
Did you work out a paint scheme in advance... and if "you're" a novice with computer graphics...What program works magic with editing photos for custom paint or trim ideas? I'm working on a simple red/white and blue color trim pattern that complements the white bodies of my Firebird and Cadillac Deville. Actually, the Firebird I'd been entertaining the idea of removable flamed nose graphics like the r*ce rockets use these days
