Wicked TPI? As in wicked power robbing and heavy? If so, thats all of them.

If your talking about wicked horsepower. Well, I did everything from stock, stock ported to aftermarket then fully ported aftermarket. Car would not trap more than 110mph in the quarter.

I sold the setup, and built a Singleplane EFI manifold (with rails, monoblade TB, etc) for around $300 and trapped 119mph in the quarter for anohter 150 passes til the season ended.

So this is no "ignorant TPI hating". This is educated experience of years (1999-2004) of messing with a doomed system.

Here's mine. It's an LB9 with World Products S/R Torquer 305 heads, SVO injectors, SLP runners, hogged out plenum, Crane 2031 roller cam, roller rockers, and an underdrive crank pulley. The intake, valve covers, and headers were coated by Airborn Coatings up in CT.

Hows the quality of the coating on your headers? I'm thinking of having them coat my headers. There only 40min from my house.

Thanks

I used to be an ACS supporter, but they seemed to have just. Lost it.. Too bad cuz they did a pretty good job on my stuff.

In the future, I'll prolly have chris (TPI383) do my coating work. His work seems good, and he's a really nice guy.

I've been happy with their work. My plenum, baseplate, and valve covers were done 4 years and over 20K miles ago, and still look good. The SLP runners were a recent addition, so I had them coated along with the headers. I sent them back to get redone, only because a nasty oil leak eventually ate through the coating and the lower Y-pipe started rusting. Otherwise they still looked pretty good, just a little dull.

406TPI, can you provide more details on the part that looks like an aluminum "heater core log" on the pass side valve cover? Where is your heater control valve? Thanks.

Thanks Joe...it's a real chore keeping the white clean

Shawn...I made that piece...I just wanted some way of organizing those hoses a little better, it also makes taking the valvecover off a breeze too
I don't use a heater control valve...not necessary.

Rawley2..thanks man

I've heard that if you don't run a HCV, even with the heat off, you still get hot air coming out the vents. Is that not the case.

I'd really like to do away with mine.

Hmm,,, with a ported stock base and modified SLP runners,,, I ran 12.5s with a best mph of 112.47 in my IROC with it gutted in cool weather. Full weight in near 90 degree heat it would run close to 110 mph – naturally aspired, flat top 355, with box stock G1 TFS heads that everyone seems to have problems with,, and a stock PROM. I swapped to StealthRam and the ETs dropped because it rolled off enough torque at and around my stall speed to allow for full throttle launches with the stock suspension - something I could not do with the TPI system. However, I didn't see a real increase in MPH - mainly because the gearing was about perfect for the TPI system,, which means I didn’t have enough gear with the StealthRam. Point being, just because YOU picked up a lot of MPH with your intake swap doesn't mean everyone would - it will depend on how well the car is set up towards one or the other whether you see any real gain or not.

I know I know I gotta get a new overflow tank and some non yellow wires but that is coming in 2 weeks. I also got my new valve covers and breather in last week so that will also be going in along with a new paint job.

here is my 86,

and my 88 with the NOS Plate system,

I put the corrugated tubing around the lines to see if anyone won't notice it, and most people don't, not even the tech guys at the track.

Well seeing as how my 84 never even had one from factory Id say it can be done away with, You will get a slight amount of heat flowing from the vents but its ardly even noticeable to me so I was thinking about taking it off my GTA too because it is so cluttered under the hodd and is crying to be cleaned up.

I don't get hot air coming out of the vents unless I have the heat turned up. If you don't like the heat, just turn it down to a cooler setting, not a big deal at all.

Yup, you could probably find someone to do it locally...don't know how much they would charge though? It's a fairly odd set-up you have to do to get the top of the plenum where the grooves are flat to the machine. It's also a challenge to clamp that thing down to the machine..it's really an odd piece when you start to look at it from that standpoint.
