Calling all V6 Sport Coupe (SC) owners
Have any of you scaled your cars?
I'm not talking about the maximum curb weights listed on the inside of your doors, or the maximum gross weights listed in statistics about our cars.
I'm talking about an actual trip to more than one scale to cross confirm the weight of a zero option 2.8 T5 sport coupe from 82 to 85.
The reason I am asking is because this 85 SC car known as "The JYD"
which can be seen HERE
was weighed as a pound or two over 2800 on two different scales after:
the V6 was switched to a iron headed V8 SBC
the light T-5 was switched for a heavier T-56
the light 7.5" rear swapped for a 9" moser
heavy steel subframe connectors
nitrous bottles, fuel pump, ignition system, bigger radiator, heavier exhaust, and larger battery were among the many weight adders in this car as well.
So this leaves me wondering, after adding a few hundred pounds to the car and still scaling as low as 2800#, what do zero option V6 stick cars weigh from the without all this extra weight we added?
This car was zero and I mean zero option. This car had no A/C, no power windows/locks/seats, only a button to pop the hatch which I dont even think is an option in 85.
BTW, a fact of noteable mention, since I was selling my old 82 red ride which had all these parts in it before but was not very clean. The first thing we swap the rear ends in these two cars.
This 85 got the 9" with 4.10's and solid control arms. Since the front struts were old/shot/wornout we took off the front sway bar off and drove it like this for a few months with just the rear suspension and 4.10s with the 2.8 and T5. I can honestly say that the car launched as hard with the V6 as it did in the V8 nitrous picture above, nearly lifting the tires off the ground at launch and then settling into the lackluster run afforded to a well worn 85 2.8.
Since the 7.5" rear would have been plenty strong enough we could have or you could duplicate the same with a set of worn out front struts, no front sway bar (NEVER REMOVE THE REAR), 4.10-4.11 gears, and solid rear control arms panhard.

More than one scale? No, but I weighed my car last time I was at Englishtown Raceway Park (NJ), it was 3370 pounds with me inside, along with 1/4 tank of gas, a 2.8 with 700r4, rear disc axle, P275/60r15's on the back, steel wheels (15x7 front, 15x8 rear) and no a/c system.
I did a search, here's a message that may help ya too: https://www.thirdgen.org/techbb2/sho...threadid=24397

Just check my signature line for the year, oh and originally my car did have AC, but I pulled it out. The original A/C control head is still in the car, as is the a/c firewall box. I have an a/c-delete firewall box but haven't put it on yet; and I didn't like the way the a/c-delete control head looked. But I doubt those add more than 5 pounds.
2950?! Damn! I wonder how heavy the steel wheels and fat tires were. I'm only 135 lbs, so that would still leave my car at 3235 pounds... bummer.
