Thinking of adding a cowl induction or aero scoop

Hey everyone. I've been reading this forum forever, you guys are the best ever. But anyways, I have a question. I have a 1987 305 Camaro. Right now, I'm thinking about either adding an aero scoop:

or I'm thinking about adding a cowl induction scoop. Anybody have any opinions or advice. I'd like to keep my stock hood, just because it seems cheaper. How hard is it to put either of these on? Thank you all in advance.

LOL I'll let Spartyon chime in on this one.

Normally from what I've seen people usually rivet into place then smooth over the rivets and dips to make it look like on flowing piece with fiberglass bondo or regular bondo.

See people on websites going as far as laying down fiberglass between the hood and scoop then riviting it into place before the fiberglass has cured then smoothing it out.

Lots of posts on this if you dig deep in the results.

No offense, but unless your really packing some major power, those aero scoops look plain ridiculious on a street car, I usually look in the mirror for a fart can when they drive by.

They do make Aero scoops that bolt onto your hood with a rubber gasket to fill the void so it looks pretty good if your not going to mold it in, but give some serious thought before you install one of those bug catchers.

thanks fireturd!-

I just put on a 6" cowl scoop onto my beast last summer. I drilled a small hole (3/16ths??) every 3/4" along the edge of the scoop. Then I pop-riveted the scoop on. I tried the fiberglass/bondo approach as a glue inbetween the scoop and hood but it didn't work out so well. I have heard horror stories about bolt on scoops never lasting and always cracking the paint after body work. We will see if I decide to keep mine or buy a cowl hood. I still don't know what route I want to go in...street/strip/show or street/strip only. Once I make that decision I will know what is the best route.

As IHI said, the aero scoops just don't look right on a car that can't back up that pro stock image. I too kicked that idea around a few years ago and came to the conclusion that it wouldn't look right...so I opted for a 6" cowl

Same here. I thought about a scoop, and then decided it just wasnt right. Currently looking for SOME way to get cold air to my engine without doing that. I'd like to keep it looking stock if I can, but if I cant then I will just use a bolt on cowl over my TA hood.

Stumbled accross a website with directions for a scoop install. So I figure this is a good place to throw it in.

This is a fiberglass to fiberglass application but you get the idea.
