All Superram owners, please check this out.......

I'm sure some of you aware of this, but.........

A while ago Accel shipped a batch of Superram gaskets that have an incorrect base-to-runner gasket included in the set. The gasket in question is the drivers side front gasket with the EGR port opening in it. The gasket should have a hole that is 1 3/4" long. Instead, some of the gaskets shipped had a hole that is 1 7/8" long. This will cause a vacuum leak on the majority of installations. Apparently, the faulty gasket is actually the correct gasket for the Accel LTR setup gasket set.

Anyway, check your gaskets if the car runs poorly or if you have a set sitting on the shelf.

Here's the offending gasket.........

And here you can see the compression area on the gasket. The area that is compressed is where the runner sits (duh).......

This happened to me when I ordered gaskets last summer. I cought the issue when I mocked it up on the bench. Huge vacuum leak. I got some gasket paper and made my own.

I just got my new gasket set from Summit.

It has the wrong ****ing gasket in it too

Somebody at Accel is going to get it big time on Monday. I'm going to shoot the messenger and then some. They've known about this for over a year.

Dude, make your own... Trace it, cut it out with an exacto blade and cean up the port holes with a sanding wheel on your dremel tool. Accel sucks.

Acceld, I have a new complete set at home. I will check it tonight for this problem. If you are in a rush I'll sell them.

I cut up the gasket and made it fit

Here's the thing.....I shouldn't have to. I shouldn't have to make a gasket set either. They've know about this problem since 2003, maybe earlier. The fact that the bad sets are still sitting in inventory is what pisses me off. Hell, they even managed to change the packaging in between my old flawed set and the new flawed set.

At least the new set came with a sticker

Accel sucks? No, Mr. Gasket sucks, therefore Accel sucks by association. They'll probably **** up Jacobs and anybody else they buy out too.

Well, my 383SR hasn't been running that great, so I checked for this vac leak gasket problem - and found I have the same gasket set as pictured here in this thread. D@MN!!!

I made up a temporary set from gasket paper at AZ, and am using RTV on both sides of the gasket during installation. Got the passneger's side on now, hoping to do the driver's side tonight.

I also found three of the four intake manifold bolts were no where near the correct 25 ft-lbs of torque. Actually not sure any of them were that tight. But they are now!

I need a good permanent set of these gaskets if anyone still has any laying around for a decent/fair price..... Pretty Please?

Sorry to hear that. It's kind of frustrating, isn't it. Call Lingenfelter or Cruzin performance. They have the good ones. Thunder Racing probably does as well. I'm sure they'd be willing to check thier stock.

Try Cruzin or Thunder. I bet they'd be willing to check the box before shipping. I wouldn't trust buying them from Summit or Jegs.

I just checked an extra set I have on the shelf from LPE and it has the same problem, I am sure my currently installed set has it too. My car runs alright but every now and then it does act funny. I will eventually take mine off and check and make my own gasket for it.

Accel hasn't figured anything out. The bad sets are still sitting on distributors shelves around the country. I talked to somebody at Accel about. They don't care. Actually, I yelled and cussed at somebody at Accel

I bought another set and it has the bad one. This is the third set in a row that has come in a different box. Maybe they have switched manufacturers or something.

I just modify the bad gasket with a few cuts. I found a local source for the gasket set that can get them cheaply and quickly.

Just a FYI, I ordered a Superram gasket set, ACC-74196G from Summit last week and received the correct gasket.

Tkae the pic at the top of this thread, and imagine measuring the hole so it comes out at 1 3/4 inches instead of the 1 7/8th shown in the pic. Don't have a camera here at work, but all the info is at the top.

Here's what they look like now...

There are some changes though - the runner to plenum gaskets are now "siamesed" for the runner ports. Each gasket has two large holes so that 1&3 share a gasket hole, as do 5 & 7, etc.

ONE PROBLEM HAS BEEN DISCOVERED THOUGH!!!

The rear passenger side gasket with the curled over EGR type slot has the same very small compression area as Acceld Z shows on the driver's side front gasket. The problem is the hole is so long, only 1/32nd or maybe 1/16th of an inch of gasket gets used before you hit the outside circumference of the runners.

I think I solved this problem though, I built up the outside if the runners about 1/4 of an inch with JB Weld stick, let it set up, and then filed it down so I have a nice straight and smooth gasket mating surface.

Who ever talked to Accel about the other problem before needs to do the same thing with this new gasket problem. I compared it to a set of gaskets I was keepng for emergency spares and it looks like they've always been this way...

oh man... this sucks

i have a accel base that i'm already 80% done porting and i want to go with the superram uppers..... I am NOT going TPI anymore... but i might have to if this gasket thing isnt sorted out.

what should i do? why does accel suck at quality control... all the stories i hear on the superram makes me really want to ditch that idea

It's not the SR that's the problem, it appears to be Accel trying to cut corners on gaskets and use a lot of the same ones for the SR and their LTR's.

Check out the fit of the gasket on your SR runners. Worse case is you build up the Runners on this one corner by welding or J-B welding.

Believe me, especially if you have to be emissions legal, the performance is worth the effort IMO.

You guys are lucky you even got this gasket. I just opened up my gasket set that came with my Superram and it didnt even contain this gasket. It came with only 3 runner gaskets so it looks like I got stiffed. I guess Ill have to make my own because I dont want to end up spending more money ordering a crap set like the ones you got.
