i'm in the military and take frequent 10 hour trips home so yes i am. on the flip side ls1's get nearly 30mpg on the highway in a fairly heafty car and my 4 banger only get 25. hp to weight ratio is a ****.

So are barn door aero dynamics.

That will be your biggest killer in a s10.

Only the weenie geared auto vettes get that mileage, or the 6 spd F-bods.

Still upper 20's in an auto is damned impressive when talking around/near 350 cubes.

U could help out by running a little smaller tire and lowering it some and even underbelly aero trays as well.

U wont get the mileage in the truck that you will see in the cars, but im betting ya come within 2 mpg.

No kidding. My vette has a 2.59:1 rear.. How it takes off, I dunno. the 700R4 must be geared different in a vette.. The tires are 26"..

fwiw, I have a 4.3 powered s10 (blazer).. Although the 4.3 is a more 'economical' engine, my foot is allways to the FLOOR which makes it just about as bad, maybe worse, maybe a hair better, than my vortec 1/2 ton was on fuel.
