summer meet, just an idea
summer meet, just an idea
I was just thinking, I saw something in the Monthly Meet thread that caught my attention, but for a summer meet, how about having it in Galveston or Clear Lake or something? So far the only one we've had that wasn't in or around Houston was the Thanksgiving track meet. Something like Joe's Crab Shack thats right on the Seawall. just a thought.

I think our biggest issue would be wondering if our cars would actually make it that far.
I know I don't trust my car to that kind of drive. It will die.

well, I trust mine to carry me to Colorado this summer, so Galveston shouldn't be a problem
I hear you though. Clear Lake wouldn't be too bad either though, somewhere near the water...?

Sounds good
Sounds good to me, plenty of females and some decent food. My car made it from amarilio to houston so I'm not worried about that little drive.

come on guys!
I get my drivers license on the 2nd of May gonna go on my birthday to get that crap. I'm tired of waiting! The car should be registered right on time for that.
As for not being able to make it to Galveston, what the hell is going on with ya'lls cars! You got hamsters as an engine or something? lol/jk. Unless you are having some serious issues with your cars, they should make with no problems! i have driven some major pieces of crap before that had everything messing up on em except for the "state of the art" sony CD player make it to Laredo(about 360 miles!) with out any major problems!

well just take it easy on your cars ....no hard driving...and hopefully ya'lls cars will make it with no problem...even if you have to drive like a 90 yr. old with the hazard lights on ....i got a small little shop here on NAsa Rd 1 ...so if anything goes wrong..yall can use it as necessary
Ok, since Mike made a new post and obviously didn't read this one, I guess I'm putting together a Pre-Summer meet since I'll only be home through June 25th and we're talking about locations damn near 100 miles apart.

If anyone is afraid to drive their car to Galveston, you should hire a new engine-builder. I'm not particularly fond of Galveston, but it might be cool!

It'd be kewl for a mass cruise down the seawall or something of that nature. The park's fun in the fall and winter time because of the falling leaves and such. It's Summer people, we need to get things moving..hehe. How about we all meet up for about an hour or so at a park or something and shoot the **** until we've got all members present, then we all cruise to a restaurant or the coast or something. That would make a great video if we could get some shots of a lot of thirdgens on the highway or takin' twisties!
I think we should avoid near the 4th of July due to the **** load of people that are gonna be on the roads everywhere. How about sometime in late June or the weekend after the 4th?
Im' prayin' to Gawd that Kitt will be at this meet.

haha, works for me. Sorry about being away from the board for a few days, we've had some virus problems on the network lately so to solve the problem they decided to block every single message board of any type, but keep AIM and MSN Messenger active. Morons.
Anyway, I wouldn't mind heading up to Baytown from Galveston, it'll probably be about a 45 minute to an hour drive, but it'd be a good cruise if we could get more than 5 of us in on it. I'll see what I can come up with as far as places to go in Galveston. If anyone has any suggestions, please do post them up.
As far as date, I'm thinking the weekend of June 10th, that Friday night. Don't really want to go the next weekend because of Juneteenth in Galveston....

If we don't have anything figured out by the monthly meet, I think this would be a good topic of discussion.
Try and come up with some creative positive ideas!

Galveston sounds damn fun. I hate driving through Houston traffic anyways and I love the beach. Everyone who said they don't drive their cars for more than 40+ miles.....your not in a ferrari
nor are our cars worth more than $5k. Get off your *** and use the vehicle for which it was intended...driving

. ok, since everyone thinks Galveston is so far away, and it seems like the whole park thing has been overplayed, how about Fuddruckers in Clear Lake on Nasa Blvd?
Right on clear lake, great view, got a patio area out back with enough room for everyone, and decent prices.
Say Friday, 17 June if we want to go to the track. Saturday, 18 June if we don't.
Plus, if yall still want to do the park thing, Clear Lake Park is 5 minutes from there.

the only 1/4 mile track in the area is in Baytown just off of I-10. The only other one anywhere near the Houston area is out in Liberty.

Not everyone...........so we hang out at Fuddpuckers and go to Baytown? I think the Fuddrucker idea bites for a Summer Gathering. May be good for monthly meeting, though. Stick with Galveston. I think it's the best idea yet. After all we're looking for COMMITTMENT here. Not Sally. Besides, if we went to Fuddruckers, we couldn't have any of the Zapmiester's flame-broiled, mouth-watering carbon dogs.

I'm ok with Galveston--my car will make it!, but just for the sake of conversation, isn't there a location in Kemah, or Texas city--park on the water with a beach. It would accomplish the objectives and be a LOT closer for the "Sallys" with cars that think they won't make it or just plain don't want to drive all the way to Galveaton?
U know, in thinking about it, I KNOW there's a park (i went there bout 6/7 years ago) that's right close to the Texas city dike (that's dike NOT dyke!) that's on the water including "beaches o plenty". I just have to think of the name of it, unless somebody knows where I'm talking about! I want to say there is a bunch of wind surfing right where I'm talking about!
Hell, for that matter,
WHY NOT JUST HAVE IT ON THE TEXAS CITY DIKE?
For those that want beaches there's a beach on each side of the road. I know for a FACT there are several areas that are much bigger than what we need. Excellent fishing, (fishing equiptment can be rented at several of the bait stores at the beginning of the dike) just a matter of feet away, including the infamous area where U can walk about a 1/2 mile out into the water on a sandbar where the water is no deeper than your waist! Now whether there are BBQ's, I'm not sure, but I know there is in the park that I mentioned above. Both/either are a lot closer to the Baytown dragstrip than Galveston (if that's what everyone wants to do). The cruise would be very easy to go to Baytown/HRP's 1/4 mile strip.--Straight down 146 (4 lane divided highay) over the bridge, couple miles more and you're there! Make for a hell of a cruise!!! Just gotta watch for radar in a couple of areas--but then again, I KNOW nobody in our group would ever exceed the speed limit!
I know we have several TGO members that live down that way. It would be real cool if one of them could go by there and check it out. If nodody does, as much as Mrs. ZAP loves to go down to the water and stick her toe in it, I don't think it would be much of a problem to convince her to take a drive down there and check it out myself.
What do U guys think about that idea/suggestion?
In case U have not noticed, I have purposely stayed out of trying to organize the summer meet. I'm kinda burned out after the Spring Fling--have been working on the monthly meets to get them organized--and I'm swamped at work right now--and my car is down again, so I really don't want to get heavily involved in organizing the summer meet--SOMEONE ELSE CAN STEP UP AND DO IT--but I will be glad to go down and check out the "lay of the land" at the Texas city Dyke and the park right next next to it, and report back.

ok ok, I get the idea, shiat!
Zap, I guess I'm volunteering to spearhead this thing. Even though I'm in Colorado, my mom already said she and my dad could head down to Galveston and check out a couple of parks down there, so I doubt they would mind heading over to Texas City.
I asked her about Kemah/Seabrook first, but she said thats a bad idea on the weekends during the summer because of the amount of traffic in the area. But yeah the main reason I was suggesting down in that area is, like you said, its a straight shot to Baytown up 146. I didn't think that many people would be interested in Baytown since its always "lets do 1/8th mile, Baytown is too far away and its too much strain on the car whaa whaa..."
Anyway, I'll look around and see if I can talk my parents into heading out there sometime this week and see what they suggest. I've never been to the Texad City Dike, but I'm sure my dad has, I'll talk to him about that as well.

Well, Sue just read my post over my shoulder, and as much as she loves the water and we have not been for a couple months, I have been informed,
"WE ARE GOING TO THE TEXAS CITY DIKE THIS WEEKEND WHETHER I WANT TO OR NOT. "
Besides it Mother's day--I better not argue!
Will report back first part of the week--try to take a couple pics and post them.
TexasLT1--maybe I'll run into your peeps down there!
The cruise to HRP is not "just around the corner", but it's good clean road all the way there. Anybody got any idea how far it would be?

alright, Bay Street Park in Texas City. Located just across the road from the Texas City Dike. 55 acres with a 50 acre lagoon, looking out on the bay. Has pavilions and gazebos. My parent's will be heading out there this week or weekend to get photos and information. But I think we have a winner from what I've found so far.
So here's my thoughts:
WHEN: Friday, 17 June.
-Meet at park at 3:00 PM
-Food starts at 4:00 PM
-Cleanup/Leave for track at 5:30-6:00 PM
WHERE: Bay Street Park, Texas City
-Take I-45 south to Highway 1764, turn east. Stay on 1764 till you reach the park
Craig, it's about 30 miles from Texas City to HRP.

-Meet at park at 3:00 PM
-Food starts at 4:00 PM
-Cleanup/Leave for track at 5:30-6:00 PM
WHERE: Bay Street Park, Texas City
-Take I-45 south to Highway 1764, turn east. Stay on 1764 till you reach the park
Not an overabundunce of shade trees--bring sunblock or hats or whatever, especially if U go sown early to get in a couple hours of fishing!
Mrs. ZAP just informed me we ARE going to go down early and go fishing! Maybe weill bring fresh caught fish to throw in the fire instead of hot doggies! (I better bring dogs anyway--the last time i went fishing, the only thing I caught was a cold and some seaweed!)

I VOTE YES!
I guess for those who are not into the water/park thing, they could just meet us out at the track?
