how will a l98 fair against the new eclipse?

heres the stats on the new ones

GS: hp 162 @ 6000 tq 162 @ 4000 its a 2.4 relines at 6500 and compresion of 9.5:1 it has either a 5 speed manual or a 4 speed auto with sequential manual shift control it weighs 3274 with the stick and 3307 with a auto

GT: hp 263 @ 5750 tq 260 @ 4500 its a 3.8 relines at 6500 and compession of 10.5:1 it has either a 6 speed manual or a 5 speed auto with sequential manual shift control it wieighs 3472 with the stick and 3538 with the auto

so how would these fair against a l98 ???

i know the GS will be a slow car probally 16flat if lucky but what do you think the GT will run they seem to have gotten heavy and the car looks like every other car on the road now nothing special im thinking like 14.3-14.5 for the GT what do you guys think?

I own a Lancer Ralliart with the 2.4 MIVEC (same as the Eclipse GS) and I believe either MotorTrend or C&D put a 15 flat - 15.2 down on the 1/4 times...I'm not sure of the weight difference the Lancer holds versus the Eclipse, but I'd think it's a wee faster then '16 flat if lucky'. As for how it looks...lol...I wish every other car looked so nice.

^^

ya motertrend put it at 14.9 supposedly but ive heard mid-high 15s from them and modernracer.com says the ralliart does 7.4 to 60 and 15.7 in the 1/4 also your car weighs 2800 pounds thats a huge differnce also but even with that weight and 162hp low 15's seems far away

You will deffinantly beat it off the line due to your torque but like most other thirdgen races they catch up on the top end

uh, 162 hp will hardly make a civic run a 15 flat. that base eclipse has gotta be slow as molasses. And its some pretty thick molasses too. I would expect the V6 to run mid high 14's

base eclipses with autos are like 17-18 second cars.... i have seen them and the slips.... manuals might be a tad quicker

that new V6 GT eclipse should move pretty good. but i think you can take it. L98 is a nice motor and has torque to get it off the line quick.

that eclipse might be as fast as the 350Z if not a big slower. and thats LOW 14's so a strong L98 with exhaust and converter should take one. the stock 700r4 auto hurts L98s true performance. mine really opened up with shiftkit at 2800 stall

the only eclipse thats worth a sh*t is the GS-X (turbo AWD) so if your l98 is running strong and well tuned you should hand a n/a eclipse its a$$.

motortrend ran one to a 14.4@103 I think. I just read about it on fbody.com. They'll probably be competition to a stock, 80's, L98. But who keeps these things stock?

Obviously has some traction issues, though.

yeah that trap speed is competition to mild LT1's and can hang with LS1's for abit from a roll
