My 1st time to the track
Here is my car:
85' Z28 LB9 WC T5 w/ 3.42 posi
headman shorty's tp a 2.5" cut out
Ported upper and lower TPI w/ SLP runners
1.6 comp magnum roller tips
Smog delete
AC delete
Hurst short throw
Center Force Clutch
8.5 mm MSD wires
crane AFPR @ 40psi
Timing @ 6 degrees
NGK plugs
K&N filters and free mods
Best run:
rt - .775
60ft - 2.230
330ft - 6.203
1/8 ET - 9.509
1/8 mph - 75.47
1000ft ET - 12.304
1/4 ET - 14.678
1/4 mph - 95.31
I am fairly pleased with the outcome. I think my modifications to the TPI helped my top end. I need to work on my launch. That2.2 60 ft was my best all day and it was on a set of pretty well used BFGs. I was abe to turn 2.3 60 fts on my 235 firehawks. I have spohn lCAs, panhard rod and relocation brackets waiting to go on. How do those damn L98s get 2.0 60 fts on street tires?! grrrr

Those are decent times for the first time at the track. With your mods and practice, low 14's should be in sight. Work on the 60' times. Good luck
Bump that fuel pressure up. 40 is a bit low. Most mild modded TPI's like 47-48.

you probly could crack a 13 second run with that trap speed if you get your 60 down. there's lots of improvements left in that car, just keep tryin!

Both 9d1burd's car and mine had transmission issues, mine were the worse of the two. I blew out my driver side header gasket on #1 and #7 too. Absolutely nothing left. Car overheated. It just wasn't a good day for me. With all that, I was still turning 14.6's @ 91mph. Way to slow for whats been done, but with the problems I had I can't really expect much better.
Winger4800 drove Formul8's old car to 13.3's @ 99mph all day long. 89 Formula 350. Same mod list, but with a performance built transmission and 9.5 Vig stall. Stock long block, bolt ons, suspension, and drag radials up the wazoo.

Mike, congrats on your car, it definitely has major potential with heads/cam if you ever decide to do it. A set of AFR heads would make serious power for you.
You made serious progress from your first run to the last.

I am pretty much done with modding my car for now... the only things that I may do in the anywhere near future would be switching to the 89' MAF computer and begin computer tunning. Suspension and other mods to increase traction are also on the table. I figure what good is more power if i can't break 2.2 60' as it sits now? Somday i may do some porting to the heads and get a bigger cam, but i cant see that happening for a while. I guess my goal is 13s with computer and suspension tuning.

Get some steel 1.6 roller tip rockers and throw them on there. That will help a bit with that cam, and it will bring your lift to about .430"/.441" with slightly more duration because of the rockers. It will help a bit.

As far as the intake goes... i started with a pretty standard grey primer then a silver/grey aluminum color (cheap autozone brand) Then the thing that made the finish look stock was a mistake. I used a cheap lacker clear coat it was horible (Duplicolor) it wouldnt come out of the can consistantly and it looked slightly splochy. Fortunatly that inconsistancey gave it a nice cast aluminum look.

For that perfect aluminum color check out your nearest autozone. And get either the 1200* or 500* ceramic paint in "aluminum"
VERY close to aluminum. So close to aluminum in fact that I couldn't even tell that I painted the plenum when I put it next to my bare AS&M SS runners.
If anyone saw 9d1burd's (Tim) engine bay then you were looking at a painted plenum and bare runners.

the kicker is, i ran these times and the damn car still runs like ****. I know I have an exhaust leak. I have yet to set the TPS and IAC and i think i may have a vacuum leak (eratic idle when cold, and a high idle whe hot)
The vacuum leak wouldnt really surprise me at all. I may need to cut my own custom gaskets for the runners.

His car was pretty quick that day, especially for conditions. Track elevation is like 620-650 feet as mentioned, and it was HOT that day. Track temps had to be over 100*F easily.

Your car pulls damn hard at the end of the 1/4 man!!! A 9.5 should bel ike a 14.9-15.1 and you knocked down a 14.6!!!
Get those 60 ft.s down. The BFG's should have gotten you some 2.1 60 fts. Try "slipping" the clutch a little out of the hole then get into it. I cut a few 1.95 60 fts on BFG's with blown shocks and a slipping clutch in my mustang...so yeah its possiblei ndeed. Goodl uck!

The paint code is DH 1606 high heat aluminum, made by Dupli-Color.
I also found out the 500* stuff is almost the exact same shade as the 1200* stuff.
We gave 9d1burd's Edelbrock headers several coats of the black 1200* ceramic paint and its holding up well, even now after a few months.
If I were ever to paint an engine bay part again I'd use this stuff if I wanted to do it cheaply. Powdercoating is better, but thats way more expensive.
