So I'm thinking pro-ram

Thinking pro-ram for my new '91.. Concerned a bit about hood clearance. I think I can pull it off.

Anyone have hard #'s on manifold clearance? I measured a TBI manifold + air cleaner, and it came out to 10.5" from chinawall to top of air cleaner.

Pro-ram appears to be 5.50-5.75" itselt. That leaves no more than 5" for a TB adapter, or TB and hat.. Not much..

I have an inch of clearance in the front of my 14x3 air cleaner to the hood. BTW, it's a 4" cowl. Don't bother trying to stuff it under a stock hood. I did, used a supercharger tophat and made it fit when I was using an old cutler intake (holley mpfi now). This is with a 4bbl efi throttle body which isn't that tall (shorter than a carb). On the dyno with the tophat running through some big marine pipe to a large K&N cone filter...308rwhp. Remove tophat setup, open throttle body,.....350rwhp....hence new cowl hood. The pro-ram isn't that tall, and an efi throttle body is short, but I wasted more time making it all fit under a stock hood than just changing the hood. Only other option might be to run one of those 90 degree elbows with a ford 90m tb. The whole problem with the tophat setup is the turn into the tb was too sharp, and since there was no boost to force it in there, major power loss. If you want hard #'s, PM this week. The top end of the motor is coming off in the next week or two. I can also measure the old cutler intake I have. I think the pro-ram wasn't that much taller (less than an inch).

Here are the #'s. With a straight edge placed across where the tb mounts, measured down to the bottom of the intake where it seals to the china wall. The cutler unit is "identical" to what holley now sells in a single plane MPFI setup.

Cutler: 5 11/16" both front and rear

Pro-ram: 5 3/4" front, can't measure rear yet because still in car.

The throttle bodies from base to air cleaner mounting surface:

Cutler: 2"

Accel: 2 3/8"

Both throttle bodies are 1000 cfm units. The cutler one will not work on the pro-ram without a spacer. The linkage drops down and hits the fuel rails. The accel tb linkage is higher. Both throttle bodies require a raised base air cleaner (9/16" give adequate clearance) for the throttle arm. I tweaked a lot (minor tweaks) to get clearances, run a large cap HEI, etc etc etc.
