RPM Air Gap vs. Action+ on a mild engine

This is the 396, just a 270 cam with .510 lift. You know, smooth idle, shifting just after HP = torque, all that stuff.

Previous best shifting at 5400 without wind assist was 13.733 @ 97.16 mph, 1.90 60' typical. After getting the Air Gap on, ran it tonight, first time out ran a 13.706 @ 98.16, 1.89 60', shifting at 5600. Next run it pulled a 13.659 @ 98.36 with a 1.88 60'. No wind, DA ~8800'. It was more humid than typical as a rain shower moved through before the 1st run - that usually slows it down.

I was surprised the difference was that big. But happy, of course. It actually felt "lazy" going down the track, I guess because it pulled better up to the shift, and had a flatter torque band.

It even comes off idle better.

A surprised, but happy camper. Back out to the track tomorrow to see what it will do during the day, most likely with lower humidity.

I am happy you smashed your best on the first time out with it. Good luck tomorrow!

It pulled off a couple of 13.62's Saturday. DA was about 9500', mild tail wind for one when it slipped off the line, pretty good cross wind with slight head for the other with good traction. It stayed solidly below the 13.80 max allowed dial-in for the class I was running.

I'll modify my sig later. I'm tired now.
