Clear Sidemarker lights?

I saw someone had a thirdgen with clear sidemarkers. I cant remember what board it was on but regardless, does anyone know where I can get the clear side markers? I really liked them.

I'm doing this to my '88 TA right now so it was probably mine you saw over at nethirdgen on the general discussion board. I'm on vacation right now, so when I get back I will post them here with more detail.

Okay fellas, here are some shots. I got these off of an ebay auction. They are made for a 2000 Honda Accord or Prelude; if you need more information email me... I did a little cutting for the side markers; they fit flush with the car. I did a lot of cutting for the front lights - not for the squeamish of heart. I'll get some better shots up soon if y'all think I need to. Whaddya think?

S.

Am I the only one that sees these as a rice invasion on thirdgens?

Ummmm... In all likelihood, no - but, what's your point? There are "purists" and there are "moddists" (guys like me that think "It's mine, I like it like this.") I thought "ricers" were a group of people that were in essence "posers." What am I posing as? Are guys that put "Camaro" or "Firebird" stickers across their windshields "ricers" too? After all, that's a non-performance enhancing sticker; just like "Enkei," "Type-R," "Koenig," etc. What about a loud exhaust on a TBI'd 305 or V-6 car? How about guys that have aftermarket rims on their rides?

Now... Are you implying that the only way that you can be in this "club" we call "car ownership" is to keep your car as stock as possible and look exactly like everyone else? Or is it okay to customize my car to my hearts content. Next time I make some mods I'll be sure to run it past the "You'd-Better-Look-Like-Everyone-Else-Or-You'll-Be-Called-A-***** Committee." If you get great satisfaction, a huge warm and fuzzy that your '85 IROC looks like every other '85 IROC on the planet, good on you. I don't.

Guess my plans for a twin turbo setup are out the window; after all a 300ZX has that. Someone call Andris... ...break it to him gently...

Jim I'm sure the very same could be said about a cowl hood on a TPI car. In fact I remember it was. Just something to think about.

Personally I think it looks nice. Note the stock front signals are still there and I don't see clear taillights. Do you?

My main bitch about it is that 99% of them reside on rice-boy owned cars, which as far as I'm concerned automatically destroys any other potential image for them. The lenses themselves really don't look bad to me. It's the unfortunate image stigma that they carry that I don't like. I liked blackouts the first 10 million times I saw them. I liked high spoilers the first 10 million times I saw them. I liked clear lenses the first 5 million times (they wore on me quicker )

I think it looks VERY nice, dude. My car is in the process of getting a full makeover. Clear sidemarkers and other "rice" mods are on the list. Don't forget, Euro cars such as BMW, Audi, etc. also pack sidemarker lamps. Really updates the car to today's look. I also have white-faced gauges and a carbon-fiber dash, and 18" wheels. But my ET is anything but "rice". Oh, and my next car may be a Supra!

Actually I think those are the original IROC grid lights, just with red transparent paint. To learn how to do that stuff checkout this site. http://www.legend.org/performance/tu...aillights.html

I like the clear, but I also like the amber. I also like the same color rear tail lights. I don't like the way we have 4 different colors back there (red, amber, white, black, license plate, then the actual color of the car. I have a red car and I don't mind the amber sidemarkers, in fact I like them a lot. I do want to paint the rear grid tail lights candy red (transparent paint). As for rice, you guys don't know what you're talking about. Sorry but I'm getting sick of calling stuff rice etc. Ricers do have some good stuff like larger rims (better handling) and they make you look really good when you beat the snot out of them at a race.

I don't know where you can get them, but I'm just commenting on the rice issue. I do think clear lights other than lights that came clear look kinda *****. But it seems that everyone has a different definition of rice. One example: Stickers. Someone posted about people who put "Camaro" or "Firebird" stickers on their windshield as possibly being rice cause its not performance enhancing. Well, if thats your definition of rice, then so be it. Mine (stickerwise) is when they put stickers that don't belong on the car on. Such as a Type R sticker on a car that isn't one. I had a Camaro windshield sticker til it came off, but I wasn't faking anything. My car is indeed a real Camaro. I say as long as you are happy with your car, do whatever the hell you please with it, its yours.

i have a full set of clears on my truck and i think they are cool. import car guys have some cool stuff. the aforementioned large wheels, the lowering thing, well, i guess that's it. i really like those front wheel drive rim styles. i am not an import guy, but i have to respect a few of the things they do. not the giant wings and stupid stickers and dumb *** ground fx, but some stuff.

Okay, about the stickers being rice. So I guess having a tint strip that says powered by honda isn't rice? I have a chevy banner on my windshield and I don't like it. Nobody notices it because it's always been on it and it's half tinted out. I just recently got rid of the numbers on my hatch, 498...what the heck was the previous owner doing with this car? Let's just say he bought a croch rocket and needed to sell the RS so I got a good deal. Rice to me is fugly stuff that has no style AND no performance. Like stupid stickers. The no 5.0's on the back of chevelle's are awesome so that's an exception. It's kind of like when you see these rusty trucks with calvin peeing on a ford or chevy symbol. That isn't rice, it's *******. In my book it's just as fugly. I didn't buy a domestic just because of power, didn't buy it just because it wasn't an import either. I bought it because I liked everything about the car. I can't think of a bad thing about it. There are tons of things I can do to it and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg. Ever notice the cars EVERYBODY likes are the ones that are super clean and DON'T have the stickers or stupid crap like that. Like a super clean 91-92 z28 with just ting and a 2" cowl. Everybody thinks those look great. If looks aren't a priority then you get a sport coupe and dump a big block in it with no gound effects. That isn't rice but it's almost *******. Another opinion, hatch louvers and stainless fender trim is beyond *******. Sorry if I offended anybody but that is my opinion. Oh yeah, and no I don't want ever car to look the same, I just like to see people taking there time with things to do it right and in taste. Heck, if everything in life was never effected by other peoples opinions we would all be driving the most economical car and walking around naked in summer not caring what others thought.

Ricers put a lot of time and money in their cars just like we do. I personally don't care for rice rockets at all, they are annoying to me. They think the same thing about me when I blow their doors off at a light, probably. And when I think of a ***** I think of a import 4-banger. A Camaro with any mod is still not a ***** in my book. Just my 2cents worth.

btw I am considering the clear lights myself.

Man, this post sure came back from the dead!

I swear that louvers get a worse rap than ***** spoilers! I'm in the crowd that likes louvers. My buddy has a set on his 86 TA, and to me it's really tasteful. It's really one of those things that you don't even notice unless you're looking, and it helps keep the interior a bit cooler. When I get the stereo done in the IROC, I'll probably put on whether I like it's appearance or not, because I think 3 pieces of window tint butted together on the back glass looks 1000% worse than a louver, but I need my stereo to be out of sight and out of the sun at all costs.

Damn you guys would have a field day greasing out my ride. It is tinted out and has a couple mods I like. My favorite one is a 5" Red vinyl strip in the top of my front window. I got an SLP decal in yellow on top of it. Don't need my crappy sun visors now!!! I also have a euro style antenna because I hate that stupid fender mount one and always did. I like the clear marker lenses. I like to make the car look clean and sleek. Hey I might be rice in yours eyes but damn my little beater is a head turner one way or another!

I ordered the prelude side lights, I'm painting my car as soon as they get in... I told the guy at the shop that I'd let him put them in for me... and just get charged a little more. Hopefully he won't screw it up. I really like the ones above on the white car, but I've already ordered the prelude lights... so I guess I'm out of luck.

Well, it wasn't hard really - just scary. Your cutting just a little bit into your car - if your car isn't in primer like mine, it'd be even worse. As long as you take your time and check, check, check you should be okay. That little job took about forty minutes per side(including the mods done to the lights themselves). Now the front lights were a different story...

ya.
i dont have front lights like you do. i have a 91 shark nose.
hmm... well. im getting car repainted for body work. i have drivers side fender already, and need pside from junk yard.
so it does take some cutting on the fender and then it will "bolt up" to the mounts?

Mmmmm... Kinda...

You have to take a knife to your old ones (the amber ones) and cut off the amber part. Then you have to epoxy the clear lens in it's place; that way it will still mount the same. You have to do a little bit of grinding towards the rear of the hole because the lens is a little longer and the rear portion is curved. If I recall correctly.

Wasn't that big of a deal to make work; just that scary first step when you start grinding. Once you get past that, you're pretty much committed.

i think the whole ******* camaro/firebird thing started because of smokey and the bandit. before that movie they weren't considered ******* cars. but most of the ******* cams and birds are late 70's early 80's. Basically till we got TPI. smokey was a good movie, but think about it. He was a ******* hick. The cops were hicks. It's like Cannonball or gone in 60 seconds, but with only 1 cool car. the trans am. Smokey was the last movie made where the Cam/Bird was the featured car and everybody knew what it was.
knight rider doesn't count, because the car was known as "KITT" not a firebird. if you ask most people what kind of car hasselhoff drive in knight rider, they wouldn't know, but They'd know it's name was KITT. so somebody with money should go make a movie and feature a TPI thirdgen and a New SS or TA. Damn Gone in 60 seconds for crushing that Formula, 50 cars and they couldn't go steal a damn firebird or camaro.

I MADE A SET OF CLEAR SIDE BY USING THE CEILING LIGHT FIXTURE PLASTIC FROM HOME DEPOT AND CUTTING IT TO THE SIZE OF THE HOLE. I USED A KNIFE TO POOP OFF THE AMBER OFF THE BASE. THEN I USED CLEAR SILICONE TO KEEP IT TOGETHER AND MAKE IT WATERPROOF. THE SUPER WHIT BULB IN IT REALLY MAKES IT LOOK GOOD AT NIGHT.
