fast ratio steering box
fast ratio steering box
I was wondering if someone could tell me how many how many turns the IROC steering box went from stop to stop. Is it possible to tell the ratio by this? If not I have a 85 T/A. It is not the ws6 but it has some sort of performance suspension option under that somewhere. It turns 2.5 turns from lock to lock. Could anyone tell me what it is or if I would be better off with one out of an 87 IROC because I might be able to get a hold of one?
Thanks

If I remember right my car turns about 2 1/4 turns lock to lock, and I think my car has the same fast-ratio box as the Z-28's did in 92.

Momar, does your Firebird T/a have the Y99 suspension option? (It should...) That got you the IROC's WS6 box. I think the F41 option also got the quick ratio box.
There was also an issue mentioned a while ago regarding "wheel size". The theory said (I don't know if it was ever confirmed!) that some boxes had "stops" built in to accomodate larger 16" wheels, which prevented the tires from rubbing the inner fenders on tight turns. Supposedly the 15" boxes don't have such stops. Altho... I thought cars with 16" wheels had less turns lock-to-lock than 2.25, instead of the other way (15" wheels having more than 2.25 turns).
Hey, do you have the casting # from the steering box?

I do have y99 and f41 both in my codes. What exactly do they consist of? I do not have the casting number but if needed I can probably just go look at it. My car did origionally have the 15" wheels. I put the 16" wheels off of an 86 T/A on it. If I turn the wheel all of the way it does rub the wheel wells. Also, how did you know that my car should have the y99 option.
Thanks for your help

Mine is 3 turns lock to lock, but it is jsut the standard firebird box. I could take a fast ratio box from any year right?
