TBI to Carb: Fuel lines
I'm swapping a carbureted engine in for my L03, and I'm using braided fuel lines. Does anyone know how to adapt the two metric fittings on the hard lines (by the power steering pump) to regular 6 AN fittings? I did a search and there were a few posts on it, but no one had a solution. I tried every hydraulic equipment shop in town, and none had the fittings. If anyone has a solution to this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Took me a while but I found a previous thread on this...

Good luck,

Thanks, scauffiel. That thread had exactly what I needed to know!!
Now I just gotta figure out where to clamp the lines...
Now I just gotta figure out where to clamp the lines... You're very welcome!
Please feel free to repost with pix and clear identification of each part, with part number, cost and where you got them from if you have the time! If I ever get around to doing that mod I'll do it myself but hey, since you're already there...

Well, I don't have a digital camera, so I won't be able to get pics for a while. I can give you the part #'s and prices, though. I bought all the Russell fittings from a local speed shop, but Jeg's has them, and Summit has the same thing from different manufacturers.
The way the lines are routed, I have the stock rubber lines going into the regulator, then a single braided line going behind the alternator onto a dual feed line. The regulator is mounted on the drivers side strut tower under a nut.
Here are all the parts in order from the hard feed line on the frame rail to the carburetor:
All parts are Russell and all p#'s are from Jeg's unless otherwise specified.
Stock 3/8" rubber feed line (with metric fittings on either side)
Earl's -6 to 16mm-1.5 power steering EAR-991955 (Summit p#) $5.95
-6 to -6 90* swivel coupler 799-4016 $14.99
-6 to 3/8" flare to pipe adapter straight 799-6046 $4.99
Mallory fuel pressure regulator
-6 to 3/8" flare to pipe adapter straight 799-6046 $4.99
-6 hose end 45* 799-1009 $13.99
3/8" braided fuel line
-6 hose end straight 799-1002 $4.99
-6 flare union w/ 1/8 NPT
-6 hose end 90* 799-1016 $11.99
3/8" braided fuel line
Pro-Hex 3/8" hose clamp 865-2252B 2/pkg.$4.99
MR. Gasket chrome dual feed line
Then the parts in order from the hard return line on the frame rail to the return port on the regulator:
Stock 5/16" rubber feed line (with metric fittings)
Earl's -6 to 14mm-1.5 power steering EAR-991954 (Summit p#) $5.95
-6 to -6 straight swivel coupler 799-4000 $7.99
-6 to 3/8" flare to pipe adapter straight 799-6046 $4.99
Other necessary misc. parts:
3/8" allen head pipe plug 799-6205 2/pkg.$5.99
1/8" fuel pressure gauge
insulation and ties (to protect the line from the heat of the alternator)
Any brand of fittings will work, but these are the ones my local speed shop carries. It took a few trips back and forth and a couple of returns before I got the combination that fits best. I don't have the p# for the braided fuel line, but I'm pretty sure it's from Russel. The hose ends and the hose should both be from the same manufacturer or they may not fit properly. I was unable to find fittings to go directly on to the fittings on the hard lines, so reusing the stock rubber hose was unavoidable. Accel has the same power steering fittings as Earl's but are about $20 more. The feed line doesn't run directly over the headers with the 45* fitting. You could use a less expensive straight fitting in its place, if that isn't a problem. If you want, you could run a second fuel filter before the carb, but i felt it was unnecessary. Hope this helps.

Resurrecting this post because it is very, very helpful for everyone swapping....the tech article should include these P/N's. One question....would it be better to go with something like -8 AN on the return line, just to be safe? How has this setup been treating you? Thanks again for all the great info. You've saved me A LOT of time and hassle.

I wish this had been posted last wk. I spent 2 days riding my bike and the bus to parts stores trying to locate fittings that nobody even knew the names of.
Do they have one of those smiley faces of a guy tearing his hair out?

By it's position in the list (in between 2 hose ends) I can't really tell what it does.
Would somebody mind explaining what it does, and maybe give me a part number?
TIA
Fbird88, if your list works, I will be kissing your feet. You saved a buttload of research for me.
BTW, all the part numbers listed are old. The Summit guy was able to translate them to the new ones, but the website couldn't. I will post the new PN's when my parts come.

Also, if I had to do this over again, I wouldn't use that fitting or the Mr. Gasket babred chrome dual feed line, but a braided dual feed line that has an integrated gauge. The setup works as it is, but the braided line sags a little where it attaches to the barbed feed line. I'll make a little bracket to support it, until I can find a braided line cheap.
BTW, if you buy a Mr Gasket chrome dual feed line WITH the fual pressure gauge on it, you can eliminate:
6 flare union w/ 1/8 NPT
-6 hose end 90* 799-1016 $11.99
and just run a 3/8" braided line all the way to the dual feed line. That option would also work a little better.
Another thing is that I used a Napa radiator hose which allows clearance to run the braided hose. I also put some tape around the braided line where it went over the alternator ground wire because the stock rubber insulator isn't the best design.
JRoy- I don't think it would matter as the AFPR uses a -6 AN fitting and the hard return line is 3/8". It would just be a small section of -8 AN. This setup works pretty good and I haven't had any problems besides the minor leaks. Just tighten 'em up and the leaking stops (except for the AFPR, not the best quality piece IMO but it does the job).
88tbi-They should make that smiley face if they don't have it, esp for a board dealing with cars

BTW, here's some pics:

The regulator isn't attached in either pic because it leaked bad and had to be returned
The new one leaks a tiny bit at the plug fittings, but its nothing to worry about. Just put some ARP thread sealer on them.

Alright, thanks for the pics. The Mallory AFPR I bought is actually a 5 port reg, so I have room for the pressure guage right on the AFPR, I think...
I will hold off on ordering the flare union until I get it all together.
Thanks again.

Fbird88, the pic you'd be most interested in is at the bottom of the thread.

For a TBI to carb setup using a mallory 4309, I just cut the rubber TBI lines and used 3/8 barbs I got from lowe's. Its cheap and it works. Then you can use AN or rubber line to the carb. The barb's were only about a dollar each at lowe's.
