SS wheels on my Formula!

Heres the story:

I came across a set of 17*9" camaro SS (ZR1 style) rims shod with BFGoodrich rubber (Zrated) for $200. While the wheels were a little scuffed, I figured that that the tires alone were worth the price. I laid the money down and bought them. Next, I bought 2 pair of 2" adapters (what Andris Skulte now recommends for this setup) and had the shipped 2 day air for $330. After I mounted the rims, I had a leak fixed for $5. In short, for $535 I immensly improved the looks of my car, while enhancing acceleration, braking, and cornering capabilities. I have never seen a Firebird with these rims, suprisingly, because I thought it would look good - suffice it to say, I wasn't dissapointed.

I have no pics as of yet, but hopefully tommorow I will have some to post.

One detail I forgot to mention:

The rims are a little scuffed, but thats okay because I plan on sending them off to be repaired and chromed this summer... just a side note.

That actually looks pretty darn good! It would be cool if someone made that small center cap with a Pontiac arrowhead or something!

Thanks for the compliments all! I don't mind getting busted for the Chevy logo on the center caps either (getting wheels chromed over anyway this summer). Today is drab and slushy, so decent pics of my car will have to wait.

I'm sorry to say that after I get my current wheels chromed, I will need the stockers for winter duty (or perhaps I'll just use the rears to mount a set of slicks) In any case, I plan on keeping them for now. If I decide to sell them, I'll let you guys know.

As for the burgandy T/A in the background (I think its an '85), it belongs to a friend. It is equipped with 305 TBI, a 5-speed, 15*7 standard wheels and T-tops. It has accumulated MANY miles (and quite a few dents and paint chips) during its life.

hey, I got the17x9.5 chrome zr1s for my camaro. ANDRIS has changed his recommendations as you have said, and this scares me. I am happy that the 2.0 will be used for the front, but now I am worried that the rear's will stick out quite a bit more than the stockers since it is .75 more inches than was originally recommended. Are you happy with these, you are probably one of the first with these size spacers. Andris is sending me one pair of 2 inch adapters for the front and I am going to test fit them on the rear when they come. Then I will decide, but I am probably going to get 1.5 for the rear since andris has had no major problems with his 1.25's.

well it that blury pic (of his car) it looks alright, correct me if i am wrong but those look identical to the 16 inch wheels that origionally came on my 86 trans am? reminds u of the pontiac sunbird style only in a 16, and its not gonna be a TBI car if its an 85, probably an L69HO car with a 5 spd and the factory 3.73 posi rear end, those are sweet cars, good for low 15s in good running condition......ya well n e way ur wheels look nice

They LOOK identical, except they are not deep dish, nor aluminum.

His engine is so dirty, I could barely stand looking at it with leaves, grease and whatnot. You are correct as far as the engine and tranny...however it is a factory 3.42 or lower (most likely lower) and it is a one legger. Trust me....it is slow Thanks for the compliment!

I picked up a set of mint SS wheels for $200 (thanks to a friend :-) )

but for now they'll sit in my basement until I can afford tires , lol.

(by the way I have a TA so you won't have the only 'bird with those wheels :-) lol , I can't wait to put them on)

I am very happy with the 2" spacers. No rubbing in the front, but the outside edge of the rear wheels are flush with the edge of the fender - So I guess there could be rubbing on the outside .5" of each tire, but only if you are not careful (not really a problem for me). However, It looks awesome and it increaces performance via increased rear track width. Hope this was helpful
