Bottle Placement
Bottle Placement
I have a question about mounting the bottle in the spare tirewell. People say the I wont be able to get to the open and close valve. If this is right could I just put a remote bottle valve opener on it so I wouldnt have to worry about it? Any help you guys can give me would be greatly appreciated.
thanks in advance.

You can open and close your bottle, but it just means you will have to get out of your car to do it. Either that, or crawl onto your back seat and reach over.
Yes, you can purchase a remote bottle opener, and open the bottle from the comfort of your own seat. If you use NOS' remote bottle opener, it is basically a solenoid. The negative is that some people have reported slow leakage. I use it and I have ZERO leaks. Maybe they didnt seal it correctly? I dont know.
NX makes an actual bottle opener. It replaces the wheel on the bottle, and using a motor, it actually opens and closes the bottle. The negative to this? If you use a bottle heater, such as the one made by NX, that relies on bottle pressure, you will be in trouble. However, if you use NOS' bottle heater, which relies on temperature, then it wont matter.
Decisions to make.....

Mine is mounted in the spare tire well.
NX has a new valve that allows the use of the pressure transducer for their bottle heater when the valve is open or closed. Or as mentioned you could use a temperature switched heater instead of a pressure switched heater.
The "leakage" problem with the solenoid type remote valves is not around the fittings, but is slow leakage past the internal seals in the solenoid. If you close the manual (actual) bottle valve off at night, or when not using the system for a long time, and only use the solenoid valve for short term on/off modes, then that is not a problem. The longer you leave pressure on the solenoids, the harder it is on them and the more they will bleed off, whether at the bottle for bottle valving, or at the engine to control system activation. Used at the bottle, they can also be an added flow restriction for high HP aplications.

How do you like your bottle mounted in the spare tire well?
What kind of kit do you have?
Is your kit hidden?
It would be easy enough to hide the under hood nitrous parts though, just a couple of solenoids, and a nozzle.

I was going to mount my nitrous bottle in the spare tire compartment, but I eventually went with the dip behind the gas tank, the only bad thing is that you have no room for any storage or speakers if you want to throw in a subwoofer. I have the GM EFI wet system from NOS. If you can get it in the spare tire compartment go for it, I just hear that its a pain in the @$$ to mount it there
What supercharger did you go with? The only one that I know that will work with an 86tpi is the paxton., do you know of any others that will work if you still have the stock ECM and MAF??

The '88-'92 had a single serpentine belt, and different accessory mounting locations & brackets.
You can use any kit (Paxton, Procharger, Vortech, etc) designed for the '88-'92 on a '85-'87 if you retrofit the later style accessory system onto the engine.

Exactly.
Continuous long term (over)exposure to the pressure causes (over time) the same type of damage (distortion) to the seals that short term over-pressurization does. This seal distortion can restrict nitrous flow when the solenoid is open and can cause an excessively rich condition and surging. It can also cause the solenoid to act "sticky" and not open and close as quickly or completely. Closing the bottle valve between uses (and then purging the line is a good idea) will lengthen the life of the seals.
Pressure keeps the solenoids closed, they have to open against pressure.

IROCKZ4ME is changing the accesories and belts hard to do? is it something you can do yourself or is it best to leave it up to a shop. I have decent knowledge of my car, but I'm no ASE mechanic. Also what is your opinion on getting a supercharger? Do you like paxton, vortech, ATI?
By the way, you have an awesome ride.
