Best air cleaner set-up?

What would be the best air cleaner set-up for my LG4...When I make the swap to a 350 I plan on using the intake and carb off of my LG4...

Do you have emissions testing? I would suggest that you try to get ahold of a dual snorkel H.O. air cleaner. If you go on this search, be patient. It took me 8 months, but I got mine, with the scoops for $75 shipped. Yes it neede to be repainted but it loos great now. If you want pictures, I can send some after I get off work. Anyway, it will deliver all of the cool air you will need using a K&N filter. I just don't like open element filters, you get alot of air, but it is hot. Soot me an email if you want some pics of a once rusty, now factory looking air cleaner.

I would like to see those pics, if you don't mind. I agree, the dual snorkel is the way to go. Unfortunately, GM discontinued the parts years ago. I have been looking for one for awhile, with no luck. I am currently making my own and I already have the K&N filter. I am not sure what I am going to do as far as snorkels, yet. I am getting another air cleaner, cut off the snorkel portion of it and either weld or rivet it on the stock air cleaner, after cutting a hole in it. When I'm done, it will look stock. Later.

I don't have to worry about emissions testing
I'd love to see the pics of yours also. Do all H.O. 305s
have the dual snorkel set-up? Of all the Camaros I have looked at in person that were for sale (or other wise for that matter), I have yet to come across one with dual snorkels (I have only seen
pics of them)
Do you know if they are that rare??

I'm not sure, but i have only seen one, so they must be pretty rare. I don't think all HO's had it, because I have also seen HO's without it. For awhile GM sold them as part of a 350HO conversion for Camaros. They still advertise them in the GM performance parts catalog, even though they were discontinued a few years ago. I even had a dealer parts guy run a nation-wide search for it just to see if someone had one--no such luck!!

Obviously there is a market for them, especially since they also fit Monte Carlos like mine, as well as most if not all GM Q-jet rear wheel drive cars. I am hoping that there will be an aftermarket model, but I am not counting on it and I can't wait for it either. I had a hard enough time just finding an air cleaner with the right size snorkel. I will post pics later, after it is done and painted. It may be awhile: new baby in the house, so I don't get to spend as much time in the garage.

Kind of makes the rest of the engine compartment look like cr@p. Believe it or not, the air cleaner used to be a rust bucket.

Nice pic and air cleaner! Don't you have the duct and scoops that go with it? That's what I am having a hard time finding. Since my car is a Monte Carlo, I will use the Monte scoop/duct on the passenger side. I may have to modify another Monte scoop to work on the drivers side. Since it looks so clean, you might have to get the rest of under the hood to match. Save that for if/when you pull the engine. Have a good one.

Here it is.

I think the flexible ducting is still available at places like Year One. The funnels can be a challenge. Just use your stock LG4 one on the driver's side by wrapping tape around its end until the ducting fits over snuggly. The passenger's side one is no longer available from GM, so you will have to do a junk yard crawl to find a suitable replacement. Nothing a little ingenuity can't cope with. Chevy High Performance mag said they found 2 or 3 complete assemblies last year in local LA junkyards for $15 apiece.

According to Hot Rod magazine's quarter mile testing, done on a 3rd gen in 1993, this air cleaner will knock off an extra .25 seconds

There really is no question, the dual snorkel is the best setup out there. Keep looking, you'll find one (don't forget to look at Monte's & Vettes). I have found it is as good as an open element is in WOT and ideal conditions, and better under all other conditions.

I got all of the ducting available from Year One (the driver's side scoop is not). I was surprised to see the metal bracket on the passenger side scoop - haven't figured out yet exactly what it mounts to. Anybody know?

I have to say that open element vs. dual snorkel is insignificant... maybe 2 Hp difference... maybe.

If you have a dual snorkel setup without the ducts... it's gonna be worse than the open element. I'd say just get an open element cause they are 4X cheaper and 1,000,000X easier to find... and more of a classic muscle car accessory.

Thanks for the compliment! I have the scoops but no ducts, I will be ordering them soon (if Yearone still has them). I just wanted to get the ducts cleaned up before installing them. Hopefully when I swap engines I can get the rest of the bay to look as good as the air cleaner.

When I went to test fit mine, the metal bracket on the Passenger side mounts to the coolant bottle. Shoot me an email if you would like me to send you pics of mine.

Please do. When I set it in place, the scoop bracket hung out in space.

I have the 14x3 K&N open element kit.

WOW what a kick in the pants, I really recommend this, especially if you plan on the ram air or cowl hood in the near future.

Congratulations! I've had that "issue" since a few months before my Camaro was made...

Yes, the metal bracket attaches to the overflow coolant tank. When you screw the funnel to the radiator support brace, then the place it fits on the tank is obvious. If it isn't then you might need to get the right tank. But I think they are all the same.
