Where can I find a L69 thingie??

I have a very strong running, stock 305 TBI, but as most of you know, it's trying to breath through a straw. Well, everybody keeps telling me to go find a L69 motor and take the air cleaner housing off and put it on mine. Problem is, I've been to every junk yard in my area, and I can't find one. Is there a place somewhere that might carry these for a reasonble price?? And how much can I expect to pay for a used one? Oh yeah, what cars did they come in?

You might want to try an open element air filter setup. They might not get cold air, like the L69, but IMO they look better than having hoses all over the place. $35 from summit will get you a flat base, 14X3 housing, with a K&N style filter.

Car: currently thirdgenless!!!
You can get the hoses from a Chevy dealer. I just got mine about 3 weeks ago. However, they no longer make the air cleaner assembly or the left side duct.

Try sending an e-mail to IROCZDAVE@aol.com. That is where I got my dual snorkel. He is a member of thirdgen.

Gunny....you could do as I did and find another breather that has a 4" duct and remove it and swap it with the small one that comes on the LO3. If you can find a Caprice TBI unit it comes with a 4" that is a direct swap.

You can find 4" hose at a variety of places cheap. I found mine at Autozone

And....the Caprice unit has a 1" taller top so you can use a larger air filter

You mean you just took off the snorkel and screwed in on to your existing housing, or did you just take off the entire unit and added the ducting?? What year models came with the 305 TBI?? I have a 350 TBI Cop Caprice, but that one didn't fit...also, where did you find that sweet looking housing with the Bow Tie??

And one last thing...did you notice any difference with your set up as opposed to stock???

I took the snorkal off and shortened it and bolted it where the small stock snorkal was located. You will have to break the welds off of both, lengthen the opening in the breather and line up and add 4 holes to bolt the thing together with.

The stock LO5 Cop car unit fit mine except for the longer snorkal pipe hitting the strut tower brace which is not on the car in the photos.

The housing is a stock LO5 cop top. With fresh paint and a Bowtie decal.

Compared to stock.... it's like day and night and I did have a Vortec 350 in the car and it fed it just fine.

Let me know if you need any more photos. I just love my wife's new dig camera LOL

You can get the tubing in lengths that will run to the radiator support at Autozone for cheap.

now, the inlets on your air cleaner are the same as on the L69, right? What tubing should I ask fer at autozone? I mean - no offence to anyone - but a lot of those guys arent so bright... I gotta measure it still, but what I guess I am asking is, should I ask fer generic 4x2 (or what ever - i gotta measure the opennings), or should I be like a need x by x tubing in y length, that will fit a semi oval inlet?

Buck I just went back in the store and found where all the hoses are located and found a 4" dia. by the longest one that I could find. You can just measure the length that you need.

I think that we should make use of Tas's "post of the week and move this discussion there.

And here is a shot of the hose that you need for the L69 just shorter. It's a piece of scrap actually.

Oh yeah......I forgot. The hose comes round. You can shape it into an oval with your hands as it has some metal rings inside of it for support
