Squeaky idler...procharger guys help
Squeaky idler...procharger guys help
I just noticed today that my idlers on the blower bracket are squeaking and/or rattling very loudly, i mean so loud i can hear it over the blower outside of the car. I wonder if maybe its to tight or 2 loose? Is there anyway to oil them so they don't squeal and squeak? Thanks, maybe i'll just have to live with it

Willie had this same problem, i believe that he found the idler was loose on the bracket and had to get a new idler from ATI, because the belt chewed up the idler. The bearing on the idlers are a sealed bearing, so there is no way to lubricate them, that i know of.

Actually Maniacc, the squeaking I was hearing was the belt disintegrating on a locked up idler pulley. It was replaced under warranty.

hey guys well i think that the idler is going out now the squeal is extremely loud now because i tightened my belt more so it wouldnt' slip as much and i would get more than 5 lbs of boost on a 12lb pulley. i'm going to call ATI on monday and get a replacement, i will pry have to pay for it since i bought the system from someone else so don't have a warrenty even tho its never been used before. we'll see what happens, i'll let ya know
I have had one lock up and another just lunch the bearing
under 1000 miles - procharger paid for both.
Im sure it has something to do with the horrible amount of tention i have use so the belt slip is minimized.

get a poly cog style ribbed belt from dayco or goodyear "gatorback" they are still a ribbed belt but they have a cog style "sipe-ing" for pulley traction. the stereo guys use them to keep the alternator from slipping under heavy amp loads. they are available at many parts stores in a variety of lengths and widths (6 rib, 8 rib, 10 rib ... etc) we got all of the 9 psi procharger claimed we would see but we did it at 6000 feet here in wyoming (unheard of).
I have converted from a 8 rib to a 12 rib with still alot of slip.
i do use the Dayco Top-Cog and they do seem to perform the best but still do not eliminate slippage.
So for the mean time ill just keep buying lots of belt dressing
which makes a mess of things.

I know what you mean, I am a member of the flinging black goop party as well, we use edelbrock gaskasinch stuff it seems to work the best (we've tried alot of crazy stuff) this trick comes from the NMRA (mustangs) that run 8's that are only allowed to run serpentines on thier blowers.
What was that stuff again? I would like to try it.
I have also heard of bead blasting the pulleys to give them a texture - i also want to try that but dont want to risk being wrong.
Thanks

that bead blasting thing sounds ok for a drag only car but it would shine back up in no time. this is the stuff, we just start the car run the brush against the belt at idle. shut it off let it stick, works great in the staging lanes.so they say.
