LT1 Swappers - Official Registry??
LT1 Swappers - Official Registry??
I just came over here to post a question on the tech board and thought I would drop in. I haven't been to Thirdgen in a LOOOONG time. So a big Hello to anyone who remembers the older or even the original thirdgen.org
Anyway, it seems that there are DOZENS of LT1 guys these days. I thought it would be interesting if we could get everyone who has completed it successfully to reply to this link with some info on their car. Then we can have a working list of who has what and what they did.
I propose:
Name and location
Car Year/make/model
LT1 info
any pertinent swap info
I would also love to see some different pictures posted of the engine bays. Whenever I run into other LT1 swappers (RARE) we always compare handiwork and how we did this or that with the cars.
So here goes...
Brett from Connecticut, member of the CTFBA.com crew
1991 RS
(1st LT1)
stock 94 with botl-ons. Blew it to hell when the oil pump crapped out.
(2nd LT1) :hail:
95 wiring
355 4-bolt splayed, all forged, GTP 2 heads, custom ground GTP 6 cam, all Comp Cams valve train, AFR hydra-rev kit. Just got the 42# injectors so I can finally fuel it past 4700rpm.
ATI D-1sc to come in '03
for pictures of the OLD LT1 swap with a very ugly engine bay check out my site at http://www.bs.cz28.com
I will get new pics up there someday when I get a new digicam!

I am looking for some tips and tricks to get this motor in and running. I have never done an engine swap before and I will be using my stock T5 for now.
Thanks

I love to see websites that show the entire progression, and not just before / after. Thumbs up on the site! BTW: My cousin has a 1992 RS that is the forest green with beige rally stripes. He found new tan leather seats from a fourth gen, I was wondering if you were gonna do something similar? Thanks

Thanks for the compliments. Yeah, it cooks pretty good. It unfortunately, ripped apart one of it's motor mounts the other day, so it is down right now until I can get time to put poly mounts in. I personally like the 3rdgen leather seats and since I had them recovered about a year ago, I think I'll keep them for awhile.

I decided to go with the Poly Engine mounts as well since I have a broken one and didn't feel comfortable with the stock looking replacements from Advance Auto. I had just installed a tranny mount I bought from Advance and it is way too soft, shifter comes up about 2-3 inches and kept popping my center console cover up when I'd give it gas.
I went with Energy Suspension Mounts
3553-1116R for the Motor mounts in Red, $24.99
3553-1108R for the Tranny Mount in Red, $20.99
With the Motor mounts, you have to use your old ones casing, basically drill out the 2 rivets, take out the old center rubber bushing and put the Energy Suspension one in, tie-wrap it together so it doesn't fall apart and makes it easier to put the bolts in.
Frodo, I just looked at your site and man, your car looks sweet.
I am going to get a 3rd gen Vert sometime in the future, most likely will be a Camaro.

I've got poly engine mounts. They are stronger but are a little louder, so be warned. I have a poly trans mount also. I haven't put it in vet . It looks like I will have to asap. I think that I just toasted a stock one. I was doing a burn out, all of a sudden I hear clunk. I was worried that I just broke my pinion but it didn't start making anymore noise. It drove fine on the way home. I broke one with my old motor once it was old though 63k. This one was a napa replacement and had 215 miles on it.

im in the process of doing the swap now.i'm kinda cheating by running a carbed lt1 set up(the intake is available through gmhp) . mods include zz4 hot cam,1.6 roller rockers, & 150 shot of NO2 going into a 89 formula
Well , I had a 90 Iroc that I swapped in 96 LT1 into . The car was totalled 3 days after I got it running . The swap wasnt totally finish . Here are the only pics I have of the car with the LT1 in it .
I am starting over with the swap with the Teal 92 Z in the above link as i still had the LT1 from the 90 . This one is gonna be more of strip car though . I'm taking my time this time and trying a few new things , quite a bit different from the last time I did it . I do plan on documenting everything this time .
Man , I had no clue there were so many LT1 swappers out there ....KEWL

Just wanted to see if we had any new completions to add. I'm working on a new, better site that will have a detailed swap guide and I'd like to have a good swap registry on there as well.
Also, I'd like to get as many photos as possible for the swap guide to make it easier to describe some of the details. Anything you've got would be appreciated. Thanks to 6speedIROC for the great pictures so far. If anyone has photos specifically of notching the frame and maybe the fuel pump swap, that'd be great.

I'm sure a few of you guys know me as well, but probably not by real name, so.........
Name and location : Walter from Chicago, Illinois
Car Year/make/model : 1987 Pontiac Trans Am
LT1 info : 1994 Corvette Lt1, 1993 Z28 T56, 1994 Z28 Rear End
any pertinent swap info : This could take forever
http://unitsn4.cz28.com/ is a temporary home page with a little info until I get around to redoing it.
On AIM I'm nm432 and email at cpd004@hotmail.com
I'm always very willing to help out a swapper so catch me at the above.
I've updated the drivetrain and suspension completely and feel like I can take the car apart and put it back together in the dark.
So far I think I'm still on course for an Lt4 upgrade and either supercharger or nitrous this spring. Currently the car is getting new paint, weatherstripping, interior and decals. Should be back in January.
Next winter begins an Ls1 swap into 85-89 IROC

Lt-1 swap-
Hope this is OK because I am in the process of swapping a Lt-1 into a 69 camaro. Set the engine in last summer and managed to get most of the basic work done, was un decided as to ac or not (ended up not)-
69 camaro back half car
Alston rear frame section
9 inch moser
4 link pro street rear setup
18 inch tires under the modified qtr panels
wilwood disc on 4 corners
8 point roll cage
I am now at the [point where I need to decide on the wiring and computer to make this thing work. I have seen the Mena Ark work and cannot decide weather a stand alone unit for the engine might not be simplier. Any thoughts would be welcome!!
I have the 16188051 computer and stock wiring but have not seen where any thing can be done with these for much less than a grand, seems pricy to me. Drop me a line and let me know what you think. Les

My name is EJ and Im in SC
1984 corvette
95 F-body (Z28) LT1, Ported heads, hotcam, CSI W/P ect....
I used the corvette LT1 assy bracket because the F-body bracket would have caused me to loose my A/C due to my frame rails.
I did all my own wiring using a book by Charles Probts called Corvette Fuel injection.
A tip for wiring the CS130 altenator if you don't want to deal with the resistor isue is to not run a wire to the L terminal and wire 12 VDC IGN to the F terminal instead. This uses an internal resistor and works great.
Here is a link to the motor in the car

I'm the original!!

I recognize most of the people that have posted in this thread, because they've either e-mailed me or IMed me, asking for help, etc. I've helped with lots of swaps. Crazy...
Back when I did it the middle of '99, it seemed no one had done it. Now it seems like everyone is doing it.
Eric

My name is Justin. I'm from Utah and here's my ride-
'89 RS (originaly 305 700R4 273 rear)
'95 Camaro LT1
'96 T-56
aluminum driveshaft
'86 ten bolt with 373's and '89 rear discs
mid 90 jetta Recaro's
My LT1 is out right now getting checked out because I shoved the crank forward accidentally and took out my thrust bearing (long story). when it goes back in, it'll have ported heads, LT4 hotcam, and some other odds and ends.

I guess I'm in here too. I have an 89 iroc that was beat to near death by some punk kid and a sweet LT1 from a 95 roadmaster wagon. I'm doing all the work myself and i'm trying not to buy anything. i'm on a low budget. I'm making my own frame connectors and narrowing a 9" rear myself as soon as I get a chance to blow up the iroc rear which should be soon.
Anyone see Jet Trikes on Junkyard Wars? I was the expert for the yellow team. We built a jet engine out of a turbocharger from an old truck. It ran pretty good but we lost because our brakes wouldn't hold it on the starting line when we spooled it up. it's not that the thing had lots of power, it was more like the brakes were real crappy.
Anyway, happy to be here.
