Chuck-Pelton Leather Steering Wheel
Bought a recovered black leather Iroc-Z steering wheel from this vendor. Work and quality of materials is excellent. A bit pricey at $170.00, but looks and feels like new. Have to send OEM wheel back as is on a exchange basis.Overall, highly recommend. Badman

Re: Chuck-Pelton Leather Steering Wheel
The work by Chuck Pelton is top-notch.
I ordered one for a friend as a Christmas present in 2005 (he is the original owner of a 1982 Z-28).
The recovered wheel was an immense improvement over the original wheel.
Is it expensive?
Yep.
Is it worth the cost?
Yep.
Other than the seat, it is what you touch more than anything else in your car.

Re: Chuck-Pelton Leather Steering Wheel
I don't think $170 is so bad when you compare it to your alternatives. A new OEM wheel will cost you over double, and I've seen beat OEM wheels sell for $100 or more on Ebay. Any good quality aftermarket leather wheel will cost you $150 or more by the time you buy the adapter kit. When you put it into perspective, $170 isn't bad at all, especially if the wheels are as nice as they seem to be.

anyone know if he recovers shifter *****?? I have a mid-eighties transam leather **** that could use a overhaul.

"We can do these but usually limit the service to those that want a steering wheel as well.
Thanks,
Chuck"
So I guess I won't be giving him ANY of my business in the future ( I own a C3 corvette as well)
I was able to find a new GM shifter **** at yearone so my problem is solved, it'll go good with my "near mint" $8 1989 TA steering wheel.

Re: Chuck-Pelton Leather Steering Wheel
Yeah I could never figure out why Hawks is charging so much, but most likely using someone like Chuck Pelton as their source and marking the wheels up.
eBay can be your friend for stuff (or services) like this, I got my Corvette repro steering wheel for a fraction of the price that the vendors sell them for just by getting it off eBay.
I know you can't get repro f-body wheels, but you see my point.

Re: Chuck-Pelton Leather Steering Wheel
What is the appeal of the stock wheel? Keeping your car original? Just wondering since a lot of steering wheels are under $100 with install kit and to me much more appealing. Just curious is all

Been a year and a half since I first started this thread. Steering wheel still looks brand new,no shrinking of leather and no fading. A worthwhile mod.

Re: Chuck-Pelton Leather Steering Wheel
Bought a wheel from chuck last week. Met him at his shop in West Bloomfield MI since he is not far from my house. The craftsmanship on the leather is amazing. Definitely a show quality wheel. Chuck is a great person to deal with as well. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a new leather wheel. And 170 is very cheap compared to other leather seat/wheel vendors online.

Re: Chuck-Pelton Leather Steering Wheel
The workmanship looks pretty good. But there are more wrinkles in the corners than my 25yr old OEM wheel. Also the texture and color does not seem to match the center cap. On the upside it looks a little thicker than OEM.
Worth $170, but I'd rather pay $250 for a better results.
For those asking about the < $100 aftermarket wheels. Have you ever felt one? The "leather" on those is just terrible. You could not pay me to run one. Even the $300 Momos have pretty crappy material.

Re: Chuck-Pelton Leather Steering Wheel
I thought that at first glance at the above picture. But on reconditioned and reproduced items, it's easy to forget virtually none of them still look like when they were new in 198x. It would probably look closer to what we think is dead-on original if it had a little more shine to it, which would better highlight the darkness / black of it. Have you put any sort of leather conditioner on yours and has it gotten shinier?

I would say $170 is a good price. I paid $240 for a new one from GM right before it was discontinued.

Re: Chuck-Pelton Leather Steering Wheel
Got mine from Chuck this summer too. Great work. The leather isn't quite as shiny and smooth as the stock wheel was, but in my opinion that's actually better. My trailblazer wheel is wrapped SO TIGHT, and it's so glossy, it almost looks like plastic!

Wow, the perforated leather looks awesome! Almost makes me reconsider going with a 4th gen camaro wheel.... Good choice. Hows it holding up? Any recent pics?

Re: Chuck-Pelton Leather Steering Wheel
reviving a all but dead thread here... sorry
Chuck Pelton quoted me $220 it included shipping back to me as well as re-dying the horn button.
Sure beats other places and way cheaper than buying a new wheel.
